It has long been accepted that a diet rich in vitamin C from fruits and vegetables provides protection against cancer and heart disease.
While 200 mg/day of vitamin C may be sufficient to maintain a reasonable health status.
Large doses (1-2 g/day) of vitamin C have been found to reduce asthma symptoms significantly. Recent studies have shown that vitamin C concentrations in the blood from rheumatoid arthritis patients are extremely low and that vitamin C may protect against further damage to inflamed joints.
