why do people lie?

i have a friend who lies about everything. i mean everything. he lies about the time he wakes up, what he had for breakfast, what tv shows he made, which band he made famous .. EVERYTHING!! is he not ashame of it? why do people lie so much? even when it doesnt matter? i do not understand .. help me!

I think people that lie alot have something to hide a secret and they lie about everything just to cover everything.

people lie to get personal benifits or favours, but i think people lie and get into the soup many a times, whats your comment on this?

it sounds like your friend is trying to earn your respect by impressing you. It's possible that they are a compulsive liar, in which case they can't help it. You should make a big fuss over what you know to be the truth and diss them when they talk sh*t.

we diss him enough i think ... i think he gets it .. but he keeps on lying about everything .. poor guy

perhaps ypu should be straight with him? Just say something like "Listen, I know how much sh!t you talk and nobody believes it, so it make you just look bad. You need to give it up or people will get sick of you". With a bit of luck he should take the advice. As I said above though. When they tell the truth and you know it, make a thing of what they said and talk about it for a while so they feel good about telling the truth.

As a person that tries hard not to ever lie.From my experience someone lies Not hurt someones feelings Not to potray themselves in a bad light For fun To attack a person. Usually if someone ask me a question to say something bad about a person, instead of a white lie and will change the topic.
