Depends how old the child is of course, oh and what they're crying for. My kids tend to only cry when they're tired, not even when they're hurt-so usually we just try and get them to stop crying-to be able to talk to them-with babies, make faces, noises etc...

Distract him with something, try different things, playing with him, putting on some soft music, talking to him, giving him a drink or a snack, taking him for a ride in the care, turning on the vacuum cleaner, rocking him.

Feed him, change him, cuddle him, then play with him, he'll laugh. If he's tired put him to bed. If he's older, talk to him, comfort him and put your arms around him!
