Do u believe ricky ponting will be the best batsman in the years to come after tendulkar and lara are gone? He already has been credited the best batsman for consecutive years and he looks to even better his previous records. When there are so many good batsman around he's been standing high. So is he the next best batsman, what do you think?

Thanks for responding, your comments are greatly appreciated. I too believe Ponting has shown that he has it in him to be regarded as the best batsman in world cricket.

i think he is the best bastman now and he will score the most number of centuries also. he is a very good bastman and also he playes when the team needs an inns from him and if you compare that with sachin then when the team needs a good inns fro him he will always fail and will score a century when te team is in good form or the pitch has nothing special.

I agree somewhat and disagree somewhat with you. Surely sachin has failed on crucial occassions but he's made some crucial situations look easy by his centuries. As navjot sidhu, tony greig and geoffrey boycott once said that you take out sachin's centuries from the matches in which he scored and then see how much he's done for india. So if some foreigners can feel the importance of sachin then we shouldn't under estimate his abilities and class. About ponting scoring many centuries i agree but sachin's records will be tough to beat.

I believe so he'll be crowned the best batsman after tendulkar and lara retire. But surely he won't be able to break either sachin's or lara's records. He'll have to be as consistent in coming years as these days he's been performing. But he surely is one of the finest players around and one of the best of this era so we'll have to wait and see how he fares in the coming years.

Maybe we'll have to wait for a while before declaring him the best batsman. But he's cashing in every opportunity he's getting to make a mark on cricket map. If he continues this way then who knows he might be able to get the best batsman crown but only when tendulkar and lara are not there in world cricket.

Ofcourse, he'll have to be consistent to get close to the top. But these days he seems the best , scoring centuries at will. Next few years will determine how he's going to be rated in world cricket.

I think Ricky Ponting is the best batsman in the world at the moment. This is lot to do with his consistency and his ability to handle any situation. He has all the shots in the book and has a really good mental attitude. He is a great leader and has played some glorious knocks. Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara are super talented batsman but they lack consistency. On their day they are the best batsman. Overall Ricky Ponting is the best I think. Sachin and Brian's time has come to a halt. Another rising batsman is Kevin Pieterson. If he plays with the right mental attitude I think he could be the best batsman in the world. He sometime gives up his wicket. Kumar Sangakkara is also a rising star but still needs a little bit more. At the moment practically I think he is the best batsman in the world.

Sure both Ricky Ponting and Kevin pietersen are the men in form these days. Though Ponting has played a whole lot of cricket than kevin pietersen but kevin surely is catching up with all the world's best. Sachin and Lara have been very inconsistent of late and ponting and pietersen have made every opportunity count. So it will be a treat if we could have sachin, lara, pietersen and ponting firing at the same time.

Yea i guess Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting are the best batsman in the world alive right now. Brian Lara is the best in test cricket and right now i dont think so his performence is good in one day matches.Besides this, Ricky ponting is one of ma fav batsman in one day cricket so i'll pick them both as the best batsmens in CRICKET.

Yeah lara and tendulkar are both legends but these days Ponting and Pietersen seem to be the best in terms of current form.

Sure it look like that after Brian lara has retired and Tendulkar is yet to be seen in his prime form. So definitely Ponting is the looking the one to hold the title of the best batsman in coming years.

Yeah, he can become the next best batsman in the world of cricket. I want to share some information about him with u. Ricky Thomas Ponting (born 19 December 1974, in Launceston, Tasmania) is an Australian cricketer and current captain of the Australian cricket team (for both One-day International and Test cricket). Ricky Ponting is also Captain of the Tasmanian Tigers, although international duties make it difficult for him to appear for them. He is a specialist right-hand batsman, slips and close catching fielder, as well as being a very occasional right-arm medium pacer. Ponting reached international standards at a young age for a batsman, making his ODI debut in early 1995 and making his Test debut at the end of the year, before turning 21. However, his progress was not unhindered. He lost his place in the team several times due to lack of form and discipline issues, before rising to the ODI captaincy in early 2002 and becoming Test captain in early 2004. He is currently the highest ranked Test batsman in the ICC ratings.

Yes I think he is the next best batsmen in the International Cricket arena and that is because of the fact that he is now in his best form and when he plays he really dominates the opponent bowling attack and never let them come back. He can be very edgy at the start but once he settles down then he can kill any kind of bowling attack and that is the reason why he is the best batsmen now. He is going to play a very vital role in this World Cup and also his captains scale a very good because to handle such talented players present in the Australian team is not a piece of cake and Ricky Ponting theirs that very nicely. His presence makes them feel that he is the boss and he will control whatever is going on the field. And he has a very positive attitude data which he is so dangerous as the captain and also as a batsmen.

I too feel he's regarded as the best in recent years because of his excellent form these days. Otherwise too he's technically quite sound. Its one thing hitting a purple patch and another thing making the most of that best form and ricky ponting is doing just that.

I think that is quite true after sachin he is the best player and also he has the maximum number of centuries after him. And if he continued to play like what he is doing right now than I am very much confident that he can break the record of maximum number of centuries scored by any cricketer in what the International Cricket and that proves that he is the best batsmen currently.

thats very true, he's the best batsman on form currently. But getting the maximum number of hundreds won't be easy for him as tendulkar is still playing and greats don't need much time to get back into form. So lets wait and see how the scene turns in world cricket.

I would say yes. He has been performing pretty consistently over the past years without any fuss or hype like in our Indian team who make heroes out of pretty ordinary players like dhoni who is not even in the class of number 7 batsman in australian cricket team. But the australian cricket team has all the best batsman and best bowlers in the world but still they don't hype it or make use of it to earn money but they do their job sensibly and correctly and hence they are winning matches. Indian team should learn a lesson from them.

Sure the hype for cricket and cricketers in Australia is not as much as in India. But this is how cultures differ, Cricket has become a religion here and i don't see its reputation going down here anytime. We got as good talent as any other team in world cricket but there's not enough desire in players to be the best. Thats where guys like Ponting score over others and look where he is today, he's even a step ahead of the tendulkars and laras in terms of current form, thats hunger.......thats desire to be the best.

He certainly is one of the most talented batsman in world cricket. He surely is in the league of lara and tendulkar but he will have to be consistent to be in that league forever.

well according to me yes.as we all know he is playing in such a good patch that he can break sachin's record also.i have seen his batting in ashes and i saw that he is playing some grand innnings for his team.so there is no doubt about his performance .so i think he going to be next batsman in world of cricket.

Ofcourse his strength is the purple patch that he has hit and as long as it lasts he'll be one of the top batsman in the rankings. Otherwise too he's got that class and ability to be as good as anyone else in world cricket.

Sure, he maybe behind in records to tendulkar and lara but surely his form these days is as good as anyone else's. Thats what's strengthening his claim for the top spot.

Yes, he definitely can be the one but there are many others in the list as well like Hussey, etc. You are right that since he has been so successful now, he is on the top of the list of the next legends. He may even top while Sachin and Lara are playing with his current form if they play even after the world cup but I think defeating Sachin's centuries for him will be difficult. Lets hope that an Indian probably Dhoni or Yuvraj can be the next legend after Sachin and Lara.

Sure hussey, yuvraj, dhoni and pietersen are all good but they are not as good in technique. Its the overall package that determines the best batsman so thats why i think Ricky has an edge over others. But yuvraj and pietersen have the capability to be in contention as well.

Yeah sachin's records for most centuries seems very tough or should i say virtually impossible to beat. But i feel he'll be the one to come closest to sachin's record.

Hmm...it seems so. Ricky has definitely showed signs of the consistent performer. Everytime he enters the field .its like OK lets switch on to plan B. Anyways, I think he will immediately after Sachin or LAra

He indeed is a consistent performer and even better than lara and tendulkar in terms of consistency in last few years. But those two are legends so i think he'll get the best batsman crown after these two are gone.
