Do you CAREFULLY check your Credit Card statements every month.?

I you dont you should! Two days ago I checked mine, as usual, and found a charge of $120.00 dollars from a very well known online auction site NOT EBAY. I noticed it immediately because still being careful after my Christmas spending I know I didn't buy anything at that price. I immediately disputed the amount and am not too worried because I use Discover Card for all my on line purchases and each purchase gets a different charge card number assigned by Discover. This is the third time in 5 months I have had fraudulent charges which I disputed and had the money refunded the previous two times. Please check you bills carefully. BTW I called the parent company of the auction site and I was told told I could not get any info over the phone only by email!! I found this to be rather strange. Have you ever had any similar experiences???

Yeah,i do check my credit card statements every month, just to be on the safe side.I dont have bad experience on my credit card though but i have on my paypal account.Someone send us an email that we had an unpaid purchase on ebay. And since we always buy stuff at ebay we thought that it was genuine but when we open the link on the email it was asking for our paypal password, and it wasnt paypal page so we decided that it was a scam.We called paypal immediately and they confirmed that it was actually a scam.

I get emails, on a daily basis now, demanding payment for something I bought on ebay or threatening to report me to ebay if I don't send the merchandise they paid me for. I haven't used ebay in about 6 months so I just forward them all to spoof@ebay.com They research them an in every instance have verified it was a scam. As to credit cards. I got a call at work on Wednesday from my credit card company's fraud division asking if I had been using my card that day in Indiana. I told them no, I had spent the whole day at my desk at work in Nevada. They asked if I had my credit card in my possession and I pulled it out of my wallet and told them it was in my hand. It turns out someone had gotten my name and card number, created their own card and was spending all my money. Thank goodness the fraud department caught on so fast. The second transaction was completed at 2:51, the fraud department called me, left a voice mail, cancelled the card, called me again and explained the situation, all by 2:58. At 2:59 the card was presented at a WalMart in Indiana for a 450.00 purchase and was declined. It is frightening how common this is. When I talked to people at work the next day, four of them had experienced similar problems. And my bank is so used to it that they are going to put the money (over 400.00) back into my account. Even the person at the bank who took my report had had it happen to her.

Thanks for all your responses (I always rate each one) I have had same experience and paypal confirmed within 30 minutes that it was fake. For any other online shopping I use Discover Card because they give a different number for each purchase that cannot be linked to your actual credit card number. To me it is the best and safest credit card available.

You really had a bad experience there.Good thing you always resolved it.I dont really use my credit card on the internet because my husband wouldnt let me to.We only use paypal whenever we purchase online because you can always file a dispute when something happens.

Have you found out where those fraudulent charges come from? Yo ushould probably cancel the card and get a replacement or file some sort of identity theft claim. That's not normal, you should check that out.

When using Discover Card they always check it out if you dispute it and as they give a different account number for each purchase it has to come from someone in that company who has access to the one time only account number.

I glance at my transactions, because I rarely buy stuff online or anything like that, its usually ok. But from now on I will be more careful. The ones I always try to keep an eye on are phone providers - I recently queried my bill and they were charging 1.86 per minute for one call (it wasn't a premium rate number, just to a foreign country).

Actually I had a problem with a bank statement just recently. I made a deposit on the ATM machine and it wasn't showing. I had the receipt for the deposit which I don't always keep. I went to the bank and they found it and straightened it out. (3 days later) One of the people I talked to let it slip that there are often problems with ATM cash deposits so I made a mental note to make sure I always got a receipt at the ATM machine and that I always keep it just in case..

You should keep your credit card statements, checking/saving account statements and receipts for 7 years. If you should ever get audited by the IRS, and I hope you don't, you'll want and need these. For utility bills and phone bills, once you've received the most recent bill, and you don't have any issues regarding it, you can get rid of (preferably shred) the old bills.

The IRS used to let you deduct the interest on credit cards and loans but not any more so they don't care if you keep your receipts.

we had that happen to us a few yrs back..someone had managed to get ahold of our C.Cds (one of them) and racked up over $500 on it!! My husband sorted it out with the bank and we got that money back etc and now though, we dont have C.Cds..LOL as much as I miss them, they are just too much of a pain in the rump IMO but ya ppl should definately go over their statements thoroughly for their C.Cds and their bank statement and even any online bank type things like Paypal IMO...there are some sneaky scam artists out htere and one really has to be careful...

Not from an online site, but here's my story--last spring I was going to refi my home and I made the mistake of putting my name into one of those sites that promises no obligation calls. I started getting calls immediately, explained my situation and the first guy I spoke to offered me a great deal. I'm embarassed to say (but now I know better), but I agreed to give him my charge card # to start the process...but I was so overwhelmed that I forgot to note his name and number. A few days later, I get a call from another guy, thinking it's him and we worked out a deal that I felt comfortable with and we started the process. Then the calls from the appraisers start coming in...I'm getting confused, so I'm taking names and numbers. I call the guy I'm working with back and find out the name of the company that's to call me. They come and do the appraisal (actually it was 2 different ones because it was no doc)--no problem (or so I think). Then I get ANOTHER call...from company #1's appraiser! I tell him it's already done (2 or so weeks after the initial call) and he says he JUST got the call yesterday. I tell him no thanks and think that's it, until 2 days after that I receive a preliminary packet from BOTH companies. I called company #1 and tell them I'm refusing to be charged. The man who called me was rude and refused. I asked for his supervisor and HE refused. I understand that they need to be paid for their time, but after getting no service for 2 weeks and being in the dark, why should I pay for crappy customer service? I then disputed the charges in writing with my credit card company and two months later, I got my money back.

Credit card. - credit card pic.
Yes i do check my statements every month and i was also facing the same problem few months back and still those transactions are under review, it happened as i paid online an amount of $1.95 but after 10 days again an amount of $49.95 was charged on my statement as i have not done that transaction which was a scam site and i was being scammed by that site, you can note down the site it was www.onlinesupplier.com so never pay any amount on this site as they keep on recuring the money and they dont give you service of the amount $1.95 what you have paid. so always be aware of your credit card statement.

I always check my statements also. I was charged for time on cell phones to the tune of $500. I reported it and it was removed. I filed a report with the police, just in case.

I know it is important to check your credit card statement or any bill for that matter but laziness and procrastrination are responsible for me never getting around to check them. But, yes, if the bill is abnormally high, I do go through it and check out what is responsible for the jump.

I always carefully check my credit card statement. As I use online banking I regularly check my credit card report during the month as well. I got one unusual charge for thing I bought online that I wasn't aware there is yearly renewal fee. But I manage to get refund from the company. But I try not to use credit cards at all. Actually I use them just for online purchases. Year ago I manage to get out of credit card debt and I'm debt free (except mortgage) since then. I don't plan to get in debt again. And credit card debt is one of the worst.
