Are you a volunteer for a charity? Do you belong to a community service group like the Lions, or Kiwanis? My parents were very active in our community so I learned the importance of be a contributing member of society at an early age, even it if is just helping out a neighbour in your spare time. Is this something you believe in or are actively involved in? If not, what would inspire you to volunteer or get more involed in your own community?

I give to charity when and where I can, I give to the donkey sanctuary in the next willage and leave food for the cats/dogs protection, school arents groups, etc. I give toys & clothes to the charity shop and will buy charity things too. I had a boyfriend many years ago who is a lion and even now they will ring me to dress u as a fluffy lion to go round begging at car boot sales etc. Tomorrow if it is fine, my boys will be going with me to plant trees on the conservation area that we walk the dog on when the beach is too windy. I don't do a huge deal but I try as best I can.

It sounds like you do a lot more than most, and I believe every little bit helps! Thank you for adding to this discussion. Cheers!

i've been a member and officer of rotary club back in the philippines and i love the outreach programs the club has, catering to poor people in the depressed areas, as well as the college scholarship and career guidance the club extends to students and youths. i plan to join volunteer groups here in Ca once i find the right one.

I'm the secretary of an animal rescue group (primarily rabbits, but squirrels, opossums and the like too). There are plenty of ways to help out in any community -- I always encourage people to find a place to volunteer that matches their interests. This way they are less likely to get bored with it.

I'm a member of the Legion. I have taken part in the Poppy drive, talked to kids at schools about the importance of remembrance, done outreach at local veteran's hospitals, helped with meals on wheels, and helped with fund raising at our local hospital. When ever I do any volunteer work I make sure I take my son with me so he learns how important it is too.
