Eyeball Piercing

United States

I doubt I will ever get another piercing myself. I have one in each ear and the is enough for me. This form of piercing makes me ill to even think about it. Eyeball piercing is a procedure where they insert a decorative platinum object under a thin membrane in the eye. This technique was started by the Netherlands Institute for Innovative Ocular Surgery. Here is a website to check out the lastest fad. http://tattoo.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=tattoo&cdn=style&tm=26&gps=81_294_1276_874&f=00&su=p284.5.420.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.niioc.nl/cei-eng.htm

Umm, no! That can not be healthy for the eye!!! And just looking at a person with that would make my eyes water! I wouldn't be able to look at the person. Poking myself in my own eye to put a contact in is difference. The contact is removable and it is a flexible material. That just looks painful and I can't help but think that it would be painful to even blink! I know it says that it will not effect the movement of the eye. But no thanks! I value my vision too much to possibly screw it up because I wanted a stars in my eyes!

Can you say eww! I think that it is really gross and that looking at it also makes my eyes water. Yuck. And, if you wanted to see stars in your eyes...I bet that you could get star contacts!! :D Yuck!

When I saw this I started laughing because I figured you must have meant "eyebrow" piercing. I guess I was wrong. It looks kind of cool, but no, not me. I think the idea is kind of weird. I would be so afraid of infection or something. And you're right about the eyelash thing..how could you stand to have this thing, in your eye. I wonder how much people are paying for the procedur?

Eww! It makes me nervous even to think about and i would fear that the damages would lead to some sort of eye problem down the line

I got the willies when I first heard of this. I can't handle an eyelash in my eye. How do these people deal with something imbedded in their eyeball?

Woah! I could only go as far as piecing my tongue, but not my eyeballs though I respect their culture.

I hadn't heard about that one before and I would never get it done even if I did have the money. I would be worried about it eventually damaging the eye and there is NO CURE for blindness.

I have to join the ewwww category. I did watch the video but it was pretty gross. We had to dissect stuff in high school, frogs and cow's eye. The cow's eye was the worst. That one made me queezy. Anything with the eye. Like everyone else has said, I wouldn't want to take a chance on damaging my sight. I'm also trying to picture this thing on an 80 yr old woman. ewwww! When we used to swim at the Y, there was an older lady, probably 70s that had a tatoo and it just looked so gross. Oh well. Just my .02 which is worth probably less than that!

Oh my gosh...I've never heard of that...it sounds so icky! I have a friend that has had piercings almost everywhere imagineable and he does them on other people also. I watched him do a lip and a tongue the other day and that was weird. The tongue especialy made me queezy. I would hate to see an eye piercing done..."shivver"

This is just plain nuts on both parties, the person who does it,and the person who has it done. WHat can a person be thinking? No matter what to risk your eye sight for a cosmetic idea is just horrific.

Is there any part of the human body, that is not pierciable? Never mind I don't think I want to know.

Wow, I hadn't heard that piercings had gone this far! I mean, what next? Goodness gracious. The only piercings I can ever imagine getting for myself would be ear piercings. I am much too squeamish and pain sensitive to even think about anything else, and especially not anything to do with the eyes! Heck, I've worn glasses for probably 20 years of my life because I'm too afraid to try to put contacts in my eyes, lol! Let alone get a piercing in my eye! But I can see how this would be popular, at least among those brave enough to do it. I peeked at the link and think that at least this kind of a piercing looks prettier and nicer than some other kinds of piercings that I've seen! *laugh* I really wanted to look at the page clsoer, but I'm stuck on dialup for the day and it was taking a long time to load, so I just got a vague idea of what the picture looked like. But it was definitely interesting. Just not something that I think i would ever consider being able to do, myself! ^_^

Holy Toledo...That makes me want to hurl. I can't believe the piercing thing now a days. I have two holes in my earlobes and very rarely will I even put earrings in any longer. This world, what is it coming to?

Well, it looks nice, but sounds dangerous. I wonder if it can make you blind.

There's too much risk for infection or an allergic reaction. Imagine that in your eye! You could lose it down the road and I happen to enjoy having both my peepers to see out. I am also of the opinion that I don't see how it could enhance someone's appearance. I love tattoos, they are beautiful, but that?

What is wrong with people? Why must they look to do all these things to their bodies all the time? It sounds vile.

Oh man, that can't feel good getting that done. I have 4 piercings (all in the ears) and have toyed with a nose piercing, but I think I would have to draw the line with the optical piercing.....OUCH!!

I read the link, and it states no ill-effect after a year. I wonder what will happen in 20 years. When you have cataracts, glacoma, etc. As a person with very poor eyesight myself, I would never do it. Why risk losing your sight when you are 40, for a cool looking decal when your 20? Crazy people!!
