Do You Compare Yourself To Others

Do you look at other people on the street, or on the television or friends and you wish you were like them? Do you wish you had their money, their looks, their clothes, their personality? Are you really truly happy with yourself or are you jealous of others. Do you find yourself continually comparing yourself?

I never compare myself with others, celebrities or otherwise. Jealousy serves no purpose but to make yourself feel miserable that you don't measure up to standards that are not really worthy (for the most part) to begin with. Most of the celebrities have their own problems and skeletons in their closets...which prove that except for fame, they're just ordinary people...just like us. I'm happy with myself and the way I am. As long as a person's honest, and lives life without false pretenses, or feel that they have to keep up with Joneses or they aren't 'in', I say be true to your own unique self. I think it's better to have your own good qualities and work on being the best person you can be.

I think it's natural for most humans to do that sort of thing from time to time, but one shouldn't dwell on it. Sometimes I wish I had the funds to buy whatever the hell I want like some people do, but hey, that ain't me at this time, ya know? I've come to realize that if I want something in life, sitting around pining for it is sooo not going to get it for me. I have to get it for me. Sure, I am in a college environment now, and I see the little skinny, young girls and sometimes wish I was still one of them. BUT I'm not and my time for that is over. It's their time now, and my time to not waste time worrying about being a toothpick (size 8 at 35 isn't exactly a hippo) and get my proverbial sh*t together. To answer your question tho, some comparison is healthy in order to not lose site of what one wants. Just like everything else, it can be good in moderation.

hi i'm satisfied with what have - a decent life, decent looks, good job, family, lovely bf - don't think i need anything else... but YES.. i do get carried away and dream sometimes what it'd be like when i watch my fave programs on tv like the OC , friends etc.. TV portrays a different life altogether - one that is glamourous and alive !

I do compare myself to others .. but I am not jealous of anyone else .. more interested in what makes them think the way they do or act the way they do and how would I act if I were in their shoes .. I can't say as I am truly happy with who I am .. if I had a choice I wouldn't be disabled for starters .. then again .. if I think about that long enough I was very unhappy for years before my disabilities got worse .. I am much happier now than I have ever been before in my life .. which is quite odd as my life is pretty 'dull' these days compared to other folks ..

You are full of empathy Toots! I salute you! I think when we look at others we only visualize the positive aspects, but you don't necessary see what goes on behind closed doors, they may look gorgeous, glamorous and rich but they may lead a dogs life out of the public eye!

I think when you are younger its probaly moreso, dont you? I dont think i do as much although we may do it without even being aware of it. It could be more of a habit at times. I just feel like , im me, not them and our lives are our own and either way, i dont let it get me down. I always think we are all special in our own unique ways and thats just like the uniqueness of our fingerprints. I must be happy because I am not jealous and I am enjoying life.
