Is anyone out there a consultant for a Direct Sales company? Are you successful at it? I have been involved in a couple and am toying to sign up for another one... but then I talk myself out of it because (as my hubby says) "I can't sell water in the desert". So I just don't know.

I'm learning how to do a party plan business. I'm not the greatest at it, but I'm learning. I got into it because I like the products. I'd like to make it into a full time venture so I can stay at home and work. Right now I have a day job too. What were your reasons for wanting to do Direct Sales?

The one that I want to do is in food and (unlike the other DS companies I have done).. everyone eats.. therefore everyone is a customer. Plus I would love to make some money for the family (being a SAHM now, I feel left out of that aspect). Plus I know some people who are already interested in helping me out by hosting.

Sounds like a good deal if you already have people wanting to have a party for you. There are some great DS websites that give a lot of ideas and teaching on doing DS parties. I'm finding that just doing it is the best learning experience. I'm not a big sales person either, so I just tell a little about the company, why I joined and what the customer specails are. Then I do a quick demo and say lets enjoy ourselves. We talk and snack and I check them out when they are ready. I've learned that most people already know their spending limit when they show up and they don't like long presentations. Our company suggests we keep the presentation part to 15 minutes. Like you said, everyone eats. Thats a great place to start. A consumable product that people need.

I am not involved in a direct sales company. But I have sold things. I am pretty good at getting people to buy things off me. Maybe I should loook in to it more.

I dont think being a consultant is good if not an employee you dont have any protections.
