I love reading Woman's World Magazine each week. "Diabetes Proof Your Body" - is an article from the new weekly magazine 2/6/07 they listed 4 things to help lower your chance of getting diabetes 1. Calcuim and Vitamin D in high levels can reduce a womens risk by 33%. says -- 1,200 mg of calcium and 400 iu of vitamin D daily. 2. Fill up on fruit --- they say it doesn't matter which fruit just as long as you have 1 serving at each meal. "Alan L.Rubin, MD" that can cut your risk by 31% 3. Crunch Carrots --- munching on carrots can cut your risk in half by nourishing the insulin producing cells in your pancreas according to a University of Minnesota study. 4. Add cinnamon ----add 1/2 tsp daily could lower your blood sugar levels by 29%. They suggest sprinkling it on food each day. Article also says that you should ask your Dr. if your multi vitamin has too much iron. ---- Too much iron can double your chance of diabetes risk. that is the basics of the article written by Brenda Kearns. Read it yourself for more details. I love this magazine as it always has great food articles, stories, diet tips, diet recipes and good health tips.

I call this magazine my one vice. One way to balance out the iron content is to become a regular blood donor. I just realized a few minutes ago that I bought a new Woman's World, and had not looked at it yet. I guess I will toddle off to bed and read to my heart's content. We all need to be proactive about our health.

My family has lots of history with diabetes. i try to be careful. It is hard right now as it is Girl Scout Cookie time again! I have heard so many good things about cinnamon and how it can help. I heard that it will also lower cholesterol. I try to use it as much as i can I tried it on pork chops once and loved it! Although my BF did not like it at all. So it is depending on the tastes I guess. Good luck and keep healthy!

I had heard these before except the cinnamon one. That is interesting. Women need calcium anyway to keep osteoperosis at bay. How did i miss this discussion? You are just a wealth of information. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)

Good points, all of these. This relates, of course, to type II or adult onset diabetes, not to type I or juvenile diabetes. Another one I've heard is eating plenty of turmeric, a root which, when dried and ground, is a major ingredient in curry powder. Unfortunately, if you got cursed with the wrong genes, nothing will prevent your eventually getting type II diabetes.
