I honestly can't remember when I stopped playing with Barbies, but I do remember I didn't want to quit. They just came out with this gymnastic Barbie and I wanted that stupid thing so much. My parents pretty much decided it was time that I stop. I might have been around nine. How old is too old to play with Barbies? I have friends who were still playing with them at age twelve.

Twelve is not too old, by any means! I think that any age where you still feel like playing and pretending is good for your soul and your creative mind. I personally, please don't take offense at this, but i was never a really big fan of barbie or even dolls in general. I loved stuffed toys, like stuffed animals, and I still have a large collection and i still keep some near me and on my bed! ^_^ And I'm 31! So while I wouldn't say that i exactly play with them, I do still love them and collect them, and I don't see anything wrong with that! ^_^

I don't remember when I stopped playing with them. 4th grade maybe? I know the last Barbie I had was some evening/swimwear Barbie that had a blue skirt and top and the hands moved through her hair if you pushed the button on her back. I can't remember what the doll was called but it came with perfume.

OmGoodness! I actually decided to do a search if I could find my two favorite Barbies. Anyone from 1985 remember these two http://www.vecchigiocattoli.it/barbiemagicmoves.jpg That is the one I was talking about the moved its arms. And here is the other one. The Glow series. I had everything for it--even the shower/bath set...lol http://www.vecchigiocattoli.it/barbie2248.jpg

I don't think there is really a "too old" age for playing with Barbies. Really, if it brings someone pleasure to occasionally revert to their childhood ways and play make-believe (as long as it's not illegal scenarios and the like), then who are we to tell them to stop?

I think it´s up to the kid itself to decide when he or she is ready to give up on a certain toy.. i think I was about 10, maybe even 11 when I decideed that barbies were not for me - it was for children *ha ha*

I don't thnk there should be a certain age to stop. As long as you have fun doing it you should keep on. I stopped around 15. I had a younger sister so played them with her. Maybe it's just because i'm a big kid at heart but it wasn't a big deal. :)

My mother is 73 and is still collecting barbies. She can't really play with them because they are all in boxes. However she is still fasinated by them. I think kids give up on barbie when they are ready. Why not play barbies untill you are older? I would never have taken away a favorite toy from my kids.

I never played with babries as a child, i prefered my brother's toys and we didn't have much money to buy a lot so my brother's toys were always passed down to me when he got new ones. but i had some friends that played with them until they were like 12 or 13. it used to drive me nuts going to their house cause that's all they wanted to do. i hated playing with dolls.

I definitely played with Barbies until I was 9 or 10. Some fo my friends stopped soon than that. I loved my Barbies, we had quite a collection. My little sister had that Ken doll that had the beard you could "shave" off and it would disappear. Remember him? He was creepy!

Once a girl starts hitting that 4th or 5th grade, I think it's time to stop playing with the Barbies. My sister stopped when she was about seven or eight. Although she still collects them, and currently has every year since 1987 which is valued at $700.00 US.
