Do you get your breakfast in bed?

Ireland
January 28, 2007 2:52pm CST
My husband and I take it in turns at the weekend to make breakfast for each other and serve it in bed. I love to have my breakfast in bed, usually a full Irish breakfast with a pot of freshly brewed coffee, while I read a book. Afterwards I read for about an hour before I get up. Do you like breakfast in bed? Who makes it for you? Do you take it in turns? What do you eat?

My mom used to make us breakfast in bed on our birthday when we were kids. I think that's the last time I've had it. That's nice that you and your husband do that. What's in a full Irish breakfast?

A full Irish is pretty similar to what Eskimo has described. I thought that haggis was served with the Scottish breakfast though. I had haggis once and thought it was lovely.

Why not try a full Scottish Breakfast - porridge or cornflakes; bacon, eggs, sausage (either flat or links), potatoe scone, fried bread, black pudding, toast, tea or coffee, and could throw in some beans (for those who like them),

Yep Gabs. I'll come over and make your breakfast for you. I must warn you though that it'll have to be quite early in the morning so that I'll have time to catch a flight back in time to make dinner here. :)

That sounds blissful, what's a full Irish breakfast? Shrek usually gets a bowl of cereal and a mug of tea from me in a morning when he's working and the occassional English Breakfast or bacon sarnie when he's not. He made me a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes once when I had just come out of hospital with a new baby, bless him.

A full Irish breakfast would be similar to the full English breakfast I think. The usual, bacon, sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, pudding, beans. Yummy!!It is lovely I must admit to have that served up to you without having to move a muscle. LOL!

Usually in weekend I like to just sleep, no bodering for breakfast. If I don't sleep too much and can get up little early, I would like to have breakfast in bed. It sounds good, my huby will make the breakfast and will serve me in bed!

Wow...that is nice. I dont particulary like my breakfast in bed. I have a real yucky feeling of getting crumbs in my bed...But it does sound romantic. How sweet for you two to do that!

I am with you on that. Being a guy and using the man steriotype I am not the cleanest person in the world but my sheets where I sleep need to be clean (to the point of me doing the laundry myself if needbe). A bed is for two things... sleeping and ........... It is not for eating, it is not for reading, it is not for watching TV, and it is not for browsing the internet late at night.

I have a tray that I get my breakfast on. It has legs on it and it fits right up to me so I don't drop many crumbs. If I'm not changing the sheets that day, then I'll give them a quick shake out just to make sure there aren't any crumbs. :)

No I dont get breakfast in bed. When I wake up once I want to get up. I rather eat at,the breakfast table. But my husband cooks breakfast for me every Sunday morning. He will put on a pot of coffee and make eggs, hash browns, bacon for me and saussage for him.Sometimes we will also have pancakes. And he even does the dishes.

Oh well your husband is a gem doing the dishes too. I usually have to bring my own dishes downstairs afterwards. I haven't quite trained my husband in the art of removing the dishes yet. But I'm working on it.

greengal, you should do it. It is a lovely start to the weekend I think, especially when you're not rushing off anywhere or doing anything else. Good luck with it.

I generally make dinners and lunches and on the weekends my husband makes dinner. We eat in front of the television because we tape our favourite shows and watch them together over breakfast. I don't like eating in bed because I hate crumbs in my sheets, but I love being able to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning while he does all the work.

Well your husband sounds great onesiobhan. Making the dinner is really something. I don't get that and that is something I'd love.

We used to have breakfast in bed, but got a new bed with new headboard which makes it very uncomfortable to sit up (a requirement for breakfast). When I retire, hope to get an electronic bed which raises and lowers the mattress which should make this a much easier option.
• Ireland

Those electronic beds are so handy. I've seen the double ones where one side raises. My only problem is what about the sheets. Do you have to put single bed sheets on each side, or what happens?

I don't have anyone to make me breakfast in bed. Heck I don't even eat breakfast usually. However I'm willing to change if I can move in with you guys...lol I would love to eat breakfast if someone would make it and serve it to me. I would even take turns. When I'm in the hospital, that's my favorite part or the stay...breakfast in bed. If I did have someone to make it, I would have a good one. Coffee, orange juice, scrambled eggs or an omlette with cheese, veggies and sausage, toast with jam and homefies with onioons and peppers. Oh my goodness it sounds good but I problably would be there all day eating it..lol Ahhh to dream...

You should try to eat breakfast. It's the most important meal of the day. When you go shopping this week make sure that you'll buy something that you'll actually eat in the mornings. Mind yourself now.

I know it's terrible not to eat breakfast. I just have a hard time eating anything until I've been up and about for a few hours. But I will try harder. Sometimes I eat oatmeal or some toast with my coffee. These days I make my coffee and log in here...my how the time flies when you're having fun. Before I know it it's lunch time..lol

That's really nice. I have actually never had breakfast in bed in my entire life. My boyfriend's cooking is a disaster, so it's not likely to start. hehe. Btw, what exactly does a "full Irish breakfast" include? Just wondering.
• Ireland
29 Jan 07
tictac, did you change your photo? I was wondering if you were you.......lol. Maybe you should buy in muffins so that your boyfriend can prepare those for you without the cooking. :) A full Irish is basically bacon, sausages, egg, mushrooms, tomato.

yeah I changed it and it's really me....I might change it back though, I think nobody knows who I am now. I don't blame them, I mainly recognize a lot of people by their picture also. Anyway, you're right, the only food my boyfriend would be able to serve is packaged, and knowing him,he'll mess that too. hehehe.

I would make breakfast in bed for my boyfriend on the mornings he didn't have work. My shift would start later so I would have time. If we did both have the day off...I would make eggs, fresh toast, ham and cinnamon rolls. Unfortunately by the time I was finished cooking his breakfast...I was too worn out to cook for myself. I usually end up just having some cold cereal. My boyfriend usually at night will cook me dinner so I think it's fair.

Well it's nice that you take turns with the breakfast and dinner. I'd still like to know what's in these cinnamon rolls. They sound lovely.

I love it especially in the winter when I can stay in bed and look out at the rain beating against the window. It's so cold looking out there but lovely and snug in my room. Then the breakfast warms me up and I'm able to get up so much easier.

I never make breakfast for my husband but he always takes my breakfast into to me on Saturdays and Sundays. I couldn't eat a full Irish breakfast, so he serves grapefruit segments followed by a bowl of cereals and then some tea and toast.
