To me,the best sportsperson ever is someone who,besides their sport record,has done most to help society in one form or another.Someone whose name would be recognized in large cities and little huts around the world.
To me,the best sportsperson so far has been

He was able to introduce many of the African children to hope and knowledge by starting up schools and donating time/money to many health projects around the world.
He stood up to the US govt. in the 60's by not joining the army and lost his World Championship Heavyweight Boxing Title instead of letting the US use his name for publicity tours.
He has shawn light on many of the problems faced by the poor.

Jesse Owens would have to be considered one of the best sportsman ever. What haccomplished i Berlin in 1936 was nothing short of amazing. To put Hitler in his place like that in Berlin was astounding. Great man and great athelte.
