For certain things I do listen to them, but times have changed since they were growing up so I find a lot of their advice is outdated. Not to say I'm rude to them I'm not, but sometimes I will just do things my way and thank them for the advice they gave me, even if I don't follow it.

It is always a good idea to listen to the elders as a sign of courtesy and respect but not necessarily follow what they say in all aspects. Times and circumstances change. For example. They don't think that computers are good but you like studying computer science, you feel that you have all the talents and will likely to excel. I feel I have to explain it to the elders.
