Large chunks of ice falling from sky... The sky is falling??? Or global warming?

The story of poor Chicken Little getting everyone up in a frenzy with the words, 'The sky is falling.' does put another meaning to what has been happening for the past several years. But is anyone taking it seriously? This is the first I have heard about it! Of course, I have an aversion to watching the news since it is usually very depressing. It seems as if in Spain many chucks of ice have fallen from the clear blue sky! A researcher of geology believes this may be linked to global warming. And if the global warming continues, these chunks of ice will become more frequent...and it has! This researcher has been studying and warning others of this since year 2000! Now, the ice chunks are falling all over the world! It it thought that there are more ice chunks that are falling but it is the proverbial tree...and if the ice melts before someone sees it, there is no fallen ice to prove it fell. But with the increase of happenings, it is now effecting the populated areas! California, a large chunk of ice breaks through a house August 2005. California again, chunk of ice leave a hole in a recreation building April 2006. Italy....head a man in the head Jan 27, 2007. Spain...10 days of ice falling Jan 8, 2007. Now, Florida, Jan 29, 2007, a man watched a large chunk of ice fall out of a clear blue sky onto his neighbor's car! At what point is the government going to take global warming seriously? Do you know of any more cases of this happening? How would you feel if you heard a crash to walk out and see a mass chunk of ice crush your car or put a hole through your roof? What are your thoughts on this matter? I'm worried about the global warming problem we have and now I've got two other things to add on the list: an alien invasion & extintson! Thanks!! hahaha This is really interesting. As I rarely watch the news - I hadn't heard about it. I wish our government would wake-up and see the ice. Maybe if a huge chunk of ice crashes into the White House they will do something!

I bet that they would definitely do something! Maybe someone can just plan to do that!! Ha ha I don't think that is just the government, it is a lot of people that don't want to open their eyes and realize it!:( But, we need to settle the alien invasion first, then the extinction!

I don't worry about it because I am quite green economically and I do not drive a gas guzzling car, if my government really want to do something, get the cars off the road and improve public transport.

No not everyone can buy a hybrid but the emission standards and things could be more strick. Japan has the greatest emission quality vehicles. I think other companies need to jump in and follow Japans lead. I do believe that the technology is out there to have some form of power other than gas for our vechiles. I just think that the oil companies would lose too much money and they're all scared about it or something.

not everybody has the money to buy a car that doesnt use gasoline. average people everywhere need to go to school, work and other places that are necessary! especially in the suburbs.

Yes I agree with you. But it is surprising that the ice takes much time to melt.Did you observe this phenomena ? See now ice fall is there since a week. Try and observe.

I heard something about ice falling through someones ceiling somewhere but not sure exactly where it was. It was on CNN here recently and did not catch all of it. I definitely think it has something to do with global warming. I would be scared silly if something like that happened to me or my friends or family. Global warming was on CNN this morning when I was watching the news before going to work. Some experts think that humans are to blame for global warming problems and some think is a climate cycle.

Lets not point the Government. Its us,all of us must work to have a better place to live in free from man made disasters... What we call the natural disaster before is somewhat became a man made disasters... We dont have to point it to the governmentWhat about us? Arent we living and contributing factors that affect our natural resources or things we have here on earth? Lets act as one.

The sky is falling...The sky is falling! I hope that it never falls on me though, or anyone that I know! That would be very scary. I think that the government is just trying to ignore it, or is just not taking it seriously. Scary though! I only know of the case that just happened in California recently, but now I know about the others! Wow!!! :) If I had ever had an ice chunk fall from a clear blue sky, and put a hole in my house or crushed my car...I would raise a fit! That would be horrible! Very horrible!!! :( I think that people should realize what is happening and not just put it to the side...or put it on their shoulder for another incident to happen.

Will have to check out the stories. My mind said that it is the ice from the loos on the planes. Also some that forms on the wings sometimes falls off. The number of planes on the levels of the sky are pretty consistent and common. If I saw this ice I would check out the color of it. We are experiencing global warming and we should find ways that all of us can contributed to its lessening if it is possible. The lack of proof leads me to think that my sharing here is the actual thing. Going to check those now!!

Actually, it was considered that the ice could have come from a plane. But they did do testing on the makeup of the ice and found that it did not hold consistent as being from a plane because it did not hold the elements of such findings of data collected from ice on planes or from their waste. But...good thought. :)

Just checked those out and even if they discount planes, I think maybe alien ships are the culprits. lol.. Anyway, having happened for centuries I don't think that global warming is a cause. Maybe contributes and perhaps accelerates. Funny how I have only heard of this and am 46 years old. Thank goodness for the net.

I live not that far from where it happened here in Florida and would you believe I heard about it on here not the TV? Go figure. I read the article and I'm not sure about blaming it on Global Warming. It has been happening since before Global Warming started so it could just be a natural occurance. They did mention the possiblity that it was like meteors and that makes the most sense to me. That these are chunks of ice falling from space and just not burning up enough in the atmosphere as if they would if they were smaller.

It is very scary, i just heard about the latest florida incident in the news...but that was believed to have been a chunk of ice stuck on a jet liner. If the chunks start falling out of the sky everyday thats when i will get very very worried about it...I believe in global warming..but i hope it hasnt gotten that bad yet...its a scary thought.

Did you read about the incident happening for 10 days in one area? That is pretty scary...not from a plane. The ice in Florida has not been found from a plane, they are looking into it as to if it could be from a plane.

I've heard of this happening before. I don't remember the explanation for it, but how are you sure it has anything to do with global warming? Are the giant air-icebergs melting too? This stuff has happened for a while, I'm not sure why its all the sudden attributable to global warming?

The icebergs are melting because of Global warming. That's why these things are happening. We're making the warming excelrate at a rapid pace do to all the emissions and lots of other pollutents we're sending into the atmosphere.

This is weird. I had not heard of this. In our neighborhood there is a place called "the hanging rock". It is large rocks that hang over the road. In winter, the rocks have large icecycles. weighing hundreds of pounds. The state road goes and shoots them off so they dont fall on vehicles. One winter one fell through the windshield of a truck and the man was severaly hurt. Scary.

I know the ice in my story has nothing to do with your discussion but it reminded me of it so I thought I would share with you.

Yes...i accept because of using the Refrigerators containing the "Choloroflurocarbon", Vehicles, air pollutioners and so on...It leads to some changes in the environment, ozone and the results are serious disaster...The one of the available remedy is "Planting the more number of trees"....

I did not think that this global warming was this serious at all. I think that is just dangerous and I hope it wouldn't get this bad in the near future. I agree with you something got to be done about this.
