Here in USA medical is very expensive so the health insurance. I know lot of people who don't keep health insurance regularly because of the high cost. Till your health is good you are ok without insurance. But if unfortunately you have to admit in hospital, that may cause a big financial problem. So, what do you do? Do you take your health insurance regularly?

We are lucky, my husbands employment has their own insurance for their employees and it is very affordable. Thank God, cause when you have two asthmatics and one of them is also ADD, the medications and doctor visits are incredible.

doctor and patient - Doctor with a patient
Ohh thats very good. Otherwise if you have to frequently visit doctors, that makes the insurance cost high.

I always make sure my entire family has medical insurance. Illness is unpredictable and can be financially devastating. Some procedures would not be given without proof that you could pay the bill. It is just not worth the risk to go without insurance.

Health should be the top priority in life, otherwise you won't Njoy life. Health insurance are the better option to cover the risks. What I think the authorities should take more steps or analyse it thoroughly how to change the scene so that it can go to further level and reach upto the Masses.

Insurance should be #1 priority, it can wipe you out financially with one hospital stay or surgery. We tried when my kids were little to do w/o insuance to save money. I got scared, and we had only had it re-instated a few weeks when my little girl got really sick and spent 10 days in the hospital, even with insurance, we paid on that hospital bill for years. Then at 40 yrs. old I was diagnosed with liver cancer, so I am glad we had insurance, some places try not to cover me, but b/c I have not let my insurance lapse they have to b/c we have group insurance.

Insurance is very expensive,it is important to try to keep it. If you get new insurance and have a "pre-existing" condition, they do not have to cover it.

a law was passed 2 years ago that pre existing conditions DO NOT HAVE TO BE REVEALED AT LEAST IN THE STATES which might help some people, hope this helps.

In my state they require you to reveal any pre-existing conditions. If a group insurance and you already have insurance, they have to take you. Other wise not. I think it depends on what state you live in.

We had insurance on everything. Until the fire. The property insurance left the state and dropped us. That was after my hubby lost his job and thereore health benefits. So since then, 2004 we have not had insurance. We have tried to through his new work, however, could not keep it since we are stuggling day to day. Now week to week. We will as we climb out of this hole we are in get insurance again. Til then we tend to things as we can and normally avoid the doctors anyway.

I'm sorry for all you've been through. I hope you can soon reach the place where you can get health insurance. Have you checked with your state, some states have reduced rate insurance for people who have limited incomes. Especially for the kids. Might be worth checking into, it would be better than nothing.

Some diseases are going to happen no matter how good you take care of yourself. Like diabetes and cancer. I was always pretty healthy, then at 40 I was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer. I am soooo thankful I had/have insurance. Cancer & other diseases are no respecter of persons no matter the age or lifestyle. Kind of like playing russian roulette with your finances. Like care insurance, sure you may not ever need it, but let someone hit your car or you accidentally back into someone else, you will wish you had it, or be glad you have it. Can go both ways.

I just recently lost my health insurance because I moved. I had state health insurance from my previous state, then I moved to NY. There are programs in each state that are little to no cost. They are worth looking into.

It's funny you should post that about New York. There is also a state plan but it's nothing more than a joke. The low-cost plan here, I think you would need to be well below something like $18,000 annual salary. Who can live on that here in Spitzerland - formerly known as Pataki-Land?

I used to be covered under my parents until I reached the age of 23 years old. Since then, I have not been able to afford health insurance. The problem of that didn't get me until late 2001 when I ended up in the hospital because of a hernia. THe surgury & stuff was expensive, & I have just finished paying off the medical bills. I also understand that there are a lot of people in the US who cannot afford health insurance.

Here in sweden we pay 33% tax so we all have health insurance - medical care is not very high cost over here just because of the high taxes and also they are not allowed to deny anyone treatment wich is a great security for the people here. I have read alot about helth care in different countried and I am amazed at how expensive it is!

When I retired from the US Postal Service I keep my health insurance (Blue Cross). I did not want to give it up, since I have had cancer;however, it costs almost a thousand dollars a month. If it were not for the Postal Service paying most of the costs I could not afford it.

Well here in the UK we have the National Health Service, so everyone is covered for medical treatment with no private insurance scheme. However, some people do still choose to pay into a private scheme because the waiting lists for non-essential surgeries etc can be quite long on the NHS. I personally can't imagine living anywhere without free medical treatment - medical services should be free for everyone in my opinion, regardless of their age or status of how much money they earn.

I agree with this. I think we should have our system set up like that. Why can't they figure something like that out for the US? Medical Insurance just goes up and up, all the time. The coverage gets worse, and the cost gets higher. And we all NEED the insurance. You never know when something bad is going to happen. Accidents happen all the time, that's just why they are called accidents. And once you go into the hospital without the insurance, you are going deep into debt. To the point it is hardly manageable.

Not having health insurance is a huge risk. Fortunatelt my wife has an employer that provides affordable health insurance for our family. It would make me extremely nervous not to have health insurance in this country. If something happened, it could cost you everything.

I have wonderful health insurance through my job. I pay into it out of each paycheck, but it is not a huge amount and I don't miss the money since I've never gotten it. I have kept medical insurance since my first job and I will always make sure that I and my family have medical insurance.

It was a big change for me when I moved from Denmark (where there was free government health service) to the USA where there was nothing. I keep only a very "basic" insurance so I don't have problems if something really bad happens and I end up in hospital. If you have a large deductible (e.g. you pay the first 10000 USD yourself) the insurance for the rest is not so expensive. For some years-- in my 20's when I didn't have very much money-- I went with no insurance and just took the chance that I would not get seriously ill. It was probably a stupid risk, but it turned out to be OK. I do feel sad for the people who simply can't afford insurance, and therefore often do not take proper care of their health.

I would never consider letting my health insurance lapse, even though I am healthy. You never know when you could get sick or injured, and one episode could put you hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt if you don't have insurance. I have always had coverage through employment until I was laid-off this summer, but budgeting to keep my insurance, even at the ridiculous amount that they charged each month, was a necessity. I would be a nervous wreck being without it.

Thank goodness we don't have to have health insurance in the UK .. although we can choose to have extra services by paying a health insurance .. With all my illnesses I simply couldn't afford to have American health insurance .. and it's one of the reasons I had to turn down a friend who offered me the use of a house he had in the States .. even having free accommodation I wouldn't have had enough money to keep a health insurance going .. and I need quite a lot of medication so sadly I had to turn his kind offer down ..

Yes.I'm having my health insurance to my entire family.Medical expenses are too high even in India. The medical tests taken for even a minor problem will cost you a lot.one of my cousin has not taken health insurance, and he has spent a lot when his wife had a problem with uterus and she needs a surgery. After that only he understood the need for the health insurance and taken it now.As anyone may be affected by any illness at any time as it is unpredictable, so it is better to have a plan to safegaurd ourself.
