Hey campers! How many of ya'll enjoy a good 'ole cobbler cooked in a dutch oven? Heck any recipes cooked in dutch oven are good. They just seem to taste better. Chime in if you enjoy the pleasures of pioneers style cuisine.

we use a 6-8 quart dutch oven to make the best bean soup in the world (or at least my son thinks so). We just clean a pound of navy pea beans and throw in a ham bone and an onion, fill with hot water, salt and pepper to taste and let it cook for hours! He loves it cooked down with not much soup to it. :)

I love navy beans. Acutally, I love any beans. This is a neat easy recipe. I will share it with my camping friends. Thanks

I have a Dutch oven, but I have only used it once...and I burnt the cobbler a little on the top. I guess that means I just need more pratice. I really would love to master dutch oven cooking though. That bean recipe sounds good though. Maybe I can start praticing with that!

I haven't never used a dutch oven. We were in one of the bass pro shops in the camping area and I was looking at them. I think we may add one to the camping gear. You can cook so much in them. Like you said cobblers. Think is a must have this year.

Cobbler is the best. Yep, you can cook so much in them. I beleive the aluminum ovens are lighter. I don't have any right now. I used them exstensively as a youngster. You really have to be attentive to cooking with them. Some think they can just forget about them, that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I got away from using the cast iron pans because they are so heavy. but, last year a friend we went camping with introduced us to a cobbler made in a dutch oven and put into the coals of the fire and it was great. I plan to add this to my camping equiptment next season.

I always seem to burn desserts that I attempt in the dutch oven. I do use it for stews, roasts and soups though. How do you manage to do a cobbler without burning it?
