ATM Pin number reversal...Please read this is good information!!

Everyone should be aware of this... If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ATM machine, you can notify the police by entering your Pin# in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists.

I have never heard of this. But it sounds really good, with all the stuff that is going on these days it looks like they would have it printed on the papers you get giving you your pin number or that the banks and credit cards would tell you this. Thanks for the information.

I think its a great idea too, but have just read some of the other responses on here and they say its not true. A friend of mine was being robbed at the atm and did this and she said it worked so I don't know what to think now!

thats an old urban legend unfortunatly it dosent work (run a search on googel for backwards pin) people have been hurt by the robber for trying that (try remembering your pin backwards with a knife to your throat not easy) it was an idea that a bank thought of but they decided not to use it as it would cost far to much plus for every users pin they would have to not allow the reverse pin to be used my anyone else so someone with a pin of 1234 would mean noone else in the country could have a pin of 4321 its a good idea and could help alot of people but never got put in place

Accoring to www.snopes.com, this is urban legend. Even if it didn't, what if your PIN number was the same in either direction (like 2552 or something like that)? It wouldn't work. I wish there was some way to seceretly signal when you needed help, but I don't think this is it.

This is false... it's an urban legend that's been circulating around the Internet since last year, according to snopes.com, a site that tracks Internet hoaxes and frauds.
