I'm not really a political person, but our next election has me really excited. We have an African American man and a Woman running for president. But are we ready yet? Do you think our country has overcome the issues from the past involving racism and feminism enough to fairly vote. If the two of them are the best candidates for the position do you think Americans will still vote for them. Our country is so used to having white men as president I'm not sure if they are ready yet. I'm ready, how about you?

epenner, I am politically aware. I follow the political ambitions of each party and candidates of the top two parties for the most part. I also follow the lessers, ie, Green Party, Libertarian etc. Having an AFRICAN AMERICAN run-so what? A woman-OMG running means nothing. Jesse Jackson ran several times-that run came to naught. AL SHARPTON ran-OMG! So what? Because, as you say that you are 'not really a political person,' then you really must read and listen to both sides of the issues. Search yourself and find out what you firmly believe in. Then go from there. If a cat decides to run for office that doesn't mean just because it is the first time a cat has chosen to run that it would be good for our nation. You must consider what these two candidates believe. The AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE doesn't have much experience in the political arena and female is lying about her role in voting for the war in IRAQ. This is all rather dubious to me.

Tell me one Politician that has ever run for president that has not lied.. Doesnt make it right but maybe the lesser of two evils. You sound like you are up on politics. I hope you will start your own discussion

Sure, I'd vote for a woman or non-white person if I truly believed they were the right person for the job. However, I don't think most people would, to be honest. Even people who are not outright racist have biases that come into play when they are voting. I don't think it will happen in the next election or anytime soon.

I am worried that it won't happen in the next election either, and I hope that it doesn't discourage anyone from running for election in the future. I don't think it is necessarily all about race or gender, it is more that Americans do not like change. Presidency has been the same for long that most Americans probably aren't ready to accept a change.

I don't think the country is ready yet. It's a shame but that is reality. Honestly at this point those two are the two best candidates but will not be elected because of America's fear of change. I would love to see a minority become president of the U.S, but race should not be an issue on who we elect.

Most may not be ready but come on people we are going to have to do something. Lets take the last four years take a look back on those.Do you recall anything great happening for us ? As for Mrs. Clinton I would vote for her, I will vote for her. I think she know more about what is going on than some of the others that are planning on running. Because she will have bill in her ear if she needs help.Lets face it people he would have been great if thing had not happened. What he was doing did not have anything to do with any of us. I would say if truth be known a lot of those people have woman or maybe man that help them in stress times.I think he was more for the people and someone did not like that. So they set him up with a woman that would talk.As you can tell who my pick is already. She is ready, she knows how things are done, what she can do, and she still wants it.Just think ladies , who is more of a caretaker, man or woman ? Men make the money ,but WOMEN TAKE CARE OF THE HOUSE....So lets let her take care of it and see what she does with it..As a woman I know she will not be afraid of war.I also think she is the type of woman that will not let others push her around..She has nothing to get back at other countries for that I know (you know what I am talking about with Mr. Bush and his father). As for the others running I wish them all good luck, and may the best person win...I really do not care who wins between the others one is as good as the other I guess. look what we have had for the last few years..That is just what I think..

I love the way lots of Americans present discussions as if we are all Americans. Particularly when Indians are the majority at Mylot. I'm an Australian and whereas I curious as to the outcome of your next election I have no real interest. I think elections are basically about change. The person/party standing has to present their aims to the people so the people can decide what they want. In my opinion whether we are ready or not is not an issue. Are we ready for space travel? Do we need it? Wouldn't that money be better spent on the homeless or on finding cures for illness? Wether we are ready or not we are still going to get changes otherwise we will stagnate. Hopefully true leaders create change that impels us forward to a better outcome of our problems.

I present my discussions to a wide variety of people. You would think that if the discussion did not interest you that you would not have bothered opening it or wasting your time responding in a manner that has nothing to do with the discussion. If it doesn't pertain to you or you have no interest in the subject don't bother.

Do not vote for Obama! He is decidedly pro-black, and anti-white! He belongs to a church that teaches white-hatred basically. It sounds like I am being an extremist, but before anyone flies off the handle, do a little research on him and his church, Trinity, in Chicago I believe.

Interesting.. I'm off to look it up. I'm not a fan of Obama's in the first place but this would just seal my feelings.

I never liked Hillary. As far as the things she is promising all politicians make promises that are never kept. I personally will not vote for Hillary. If Rudy Guiliani decides to run there is my vote.

I feel the same way :) I wish people would look at Hillary's past and vote for her based on that - if they really looked they would see that she isn't as great as she appears. Just because she is a woman doesn't make her right for the job. Just because she was a senator doesn't make her good enough to be President.

I am so ready to have a female president, i don't care what color she is! It's about time! I don't think everyone will support the idea, but don't fret. Give it time; it'll happen.

The election will definate create a history with what an woman, a balck man, an hispanic its going to show various races that now form USA. Though with a great number of voters being on the wrong side of change expecting a change in the history looks bit blink put this election will definately ltry to change the mental image of who should be the president. The campainging style will also be on focus selecting a particular person bsed on color or race may or may not give the define result. Whatever the outcome in coming months analystist will be very busy studing the amercian mindset. I will prefer to vote a person based on it sampaing bulletin

If those are our only two choices then we will have to be ready. I would like to think that America is ready but I don't see it happening just yet. Maybe in another 20 years or so. With the war going on and other stuff I just don't think it will happen in 08 I could be wrong though.

A black guy will never sit in that oval office ...secretly many Americans are embarrassed for Obami.....they do not see themselves being addressed by the grandson of a slave....the fact that his color is an issue should tell you all.
