self, self, self do every thing self it is a special feeling when you cut your hair yourself .,y dont you bother your family member be pride of yourself cut it looking at the mirror yourself .lot of greatpeople around the world including Mahatma gandhi used to cut his hair himself.at first it may lood ugly but as you gain exp you will improve. I do a pretty good job at cutting my hair these days I have a wig book and I just get the measurements out of it and use them to cut my hair. I cut almost everyone elses because I do a good job at cutting hair. I do have a feeling of dooing smething good when someone compliments my hair and says it looks nice. Why pay out the bum when you can do it yourself at home just as good as job as the barber or salon? I also dye my own hair. I also cut hair and use it as a gift sometimes. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it.

Boy this is an oldie...lol I always go to the salon. I just go to the cheap ones like ProCuts or Fatastik Sams that kind of place. I've never considered a barber cause I always think they are for men. I don't think I could cut my own but hey you never know...I may someday. I have an aunt that swears by a flowbee..lol

Hey mari61960, Thanks for responing to my old discussion I appreciate it. It easier with a wig book a tape measure or something with the measurements on it. I love a flowbee! My mother had one and she llet us use it to keep our hair trimmed up and I used it many times, but she loaned it to my sister and it hasn't been seen since and that was about 4 1/2 years ago and she doesn't have it now. She either left it when she moved or tossed it out I am not sure. But we learned that whatever is to be borrowed you might as well say bye bye to. Same way with my brother and some of my husbands family either that or they break it . Me I always take care of things and peoples stuff. Well, hope you have a good day today!

Hi mtdewgurl74! I have never cut anyones hair so far. I think i would live that job to a hair stylist. I would not want to spoil my hair or anyone else because i am not an expert.

Hey lovelydame3000! Hope today is finding you well, I have been cutting hair since I was almost 13 years old. And I praticed on my dad, brother, then my mom when I got a little more pratice in. I have only been in a salon once to et my hair done and I didn't like it at all I do better myself. I am not a expert but I do do a good job. Maybe It's not to late for me to start school and get a degree for cutting hair. Atleast it will pay and everyone is always getting there hair cut. Maybe even start up a little business for myself.. Well, till later tootleloo.

Whether i like a barber cut or simply thinning, i still go to salon. Because my hairdresser cut my hair very well and paintakingly that makes me satisfied with his performance. Thanks

Hey statickery560, Thanks for posting a response to my discussion I appreciate it alot. It seems that most of the responses I received said they prefer a salon hairdresser over a barber even the males..So it does show that we care about our hair more and how it is tended more now then ever. My niece has to have her hair thinned periodically because she has the thickess hair I ever seen if it isn't thinned she looks like her head is a hair puff..lol well like the comedians Carrot Tops anyhow..Well, I wish you good day and hope you are enjoying your time here at Mylot. Happy Holidays!

I started going back to a woman I used to go to in middle school because my husbands family all go to her. She is fantastic. I have insanely thick hair, and she has actually cut it so it sits nicely!

I cut my own hair. It's pretty long, so I can just flip it over and cut a straight line and that way I get layers, too. I also have bangs, which I cut in myself and have to trim every few weeks to keep out of my eyes. I occasionaly trim my boyfriends hair, but he still goes to a salon the have the "major work" done. He is the survivor of a childhood full of home haircut traumas, and still isn't comfortable with me doing anything more than cleaning up the back.

My hair was long way past my shoulder I just cut about 6 inched off of it tonight and layer cutted it. I use a wig book to get the exact length I need and I use a ruler or comb to measure by. Everyone liked it so I guess I did a good job even got the back even with just a few hairs that needed trimming. I also cut my own hair because of childhood hair cuts. I love my family but I don't trust them with my hair(anymore). I have even given myself a few perms and do my own dye jobs and everything comes out ok. I should go back to school and become a hairdresser. Since I cut everyones hair in my family and my hubby's and a few friends.Well hope you have a good day...Happy cutting. Thanks for the response.

Hi, Well I trained as a hairdresser many moons ago, so my job is to cut all the family's hair. My hair is long so I can cut the ends myself and my daughter usually makes sure that it's straight at the back. I've never trusted the hairdresser to cut my hair as they think one inch is ten inches and you end up coming out almost bald!

I heard that! I never trained or anything but I guess I have got alot of training in cutting everyones hair for them. I don't trust anyone with my hair hardly either I will ask my sister in law if I have it straight and ask her to cut a few hairs that aren't straight in the back. My mom had a bad traumatic experience with a salon doing her hair they didn't do it right and fried it and then they cut it to short and it looked awful and it was her birthday and she was going to her birthday party. She explained about the hair and so now I do cut her hair everytime because atleast I have never fried it even if I put a perm in and She has never almost been bald when I do it. Thanks for the post I appreciate it.

No way would i trust a fmaily memeber to cut my hair! Not unless they were a hairdresser themselves as my step-mum and step-stisters are! But i wouldn't trust a non-hairdresser to cut it, no way! I'd rather just pay the money to have it cut professionally.

I cut my own hair because I have let a family memeber cut it and it turn out disasterous. That is why I cut my own. Thanks for the response I appreciate it.

Hello,easy888 that is great to have a friend as a hairdresser I wish I had a friend that could cut hair I would let them at my hair right now it is so long and hot! I usually get a wig book and look at the measurements of the wig I want and cut my hair that way. It mostly comes out looking out like the photo in the wig book lucky for me.. Well good luck and your friend should be happy for you giving them alot of extra pratice in..Good day and happy posting.

I just let it grow. I am donating it to http://locksoflove.com so I will go to a salon and have them cut it. I'm going to have my girlfriend put it in about 10 pony tails to take advantage of the length from all areas.

Hey I think that is great. Yep I agree putting in about 10 pony tails would let you donate even more hair then just putting it in one pony and cutting. I am sure they will love to have your hair to be able to make someone a wig. Thanks for the post I appreciate it. And good luck..

I am going to hair stylist because I doing hair highlights and these are not good when you do them by yourself:). I have long hair , I don'T want to risk.

Highlights are the hardest especially if you have long hair and want multiple hairlights added. My sister n law has very long hair and let me tell you I never worked so hard in my life at doing hir until hers and trying to pull her long hair through the tiny holes in the frost cap they provide in do it yourself home kits. It turned out okay but took me so long to do it I won't do it anymore with a cap now I use foil and a frost brush faster and easier. I do okay job atleast everyone liked it, and she was happy with it. well, Thanks for the post I appreciate it. Happy posting and I hope you will enjoy mylot and stay with it.

I go to a salon for my haircut. I have been seeing the same hairstylist since I was in high school. She is awesome and would not want anyone else cutting my hair. Even though it costs more, it is worth it.

Cool, thanks for the response i appreciate it.. it is good to find a good stylist that does great work and stick with them it seems when you try to go somewhere else is when you regret it and end up wearing a hat or a scarf on your head trying to cover a bad hairdo...thanks

I've been once to a salon to do my hair and i didn't like how they did it..i myself do a better job. but i guess that was how i was raised it was always granny cutting the hair she used to do everyone she was really good at it even all the church ladies had her do their hair but when she got to old to stand and do it. my mom started cutting it..then i started cutting my own and have been doing that for about 15 years and everyone likes it and i cut theirs...
