Are we unknowingly racist towards each other?

We all say that we are not racist, but when someone of a different race says something that offends us, we lash out at their race or make small remarks under our breath or even in our mind. I'm not racist and I personally hate the human race but I love the individuals that make up that race. So do you catch yourself being unknowingly racist sometimes?

Everyone and anyone can get under your skin. I agree that people are quick to mention a persons color, culture when they are upset. I guess we as people get so upset we look for ways to offend the other person. I remember an old lady trying to steal a parking space from me. I wont mention her color cause it really doesn't matter, but I called her every name in the book. She did the same. I myself am a dark skin hispanic woman who is frequently classified as a black woman. I haven't encountered any racism to my face. I hope I don't ever. We are all humans and that is all that should matter.Right?

The gurus will tell you that prejudice is one of the hardest weeds to pull out. I discovered that when I got involved with a man from another country. It all came to the surface then and I wasn't even aware of these feelings. Whoa! What a learning experience that was. But prejudice to race is just one of the deep subconscious beliefs thats difficult to overcome. My childern, my political party, my ways of thinking, etc. How bout those?

Indeed prejudice is one of the most toughest thing to eliminate from human nature.

If I'm going to lash out at someone their race/culture would be the last thing I'd think to attack. Why insult everyone else by stereotyping some moron amoung their numbers? I'd attack the person and their intelegence.

The vast majority of all people on earth are racist, predjudiced or biased. They always have been and always will be. There's no race of people in the world, that I'm aware of,that considers themselves inferior to any other race. In fact it's quite the opposite. Everybody believes in their own race as oppposed to other races. It's human nature. The same holds true for religions, politics, governments and virtualy anything else you can think of.

Yep I do it - all Hillbillies are backwards. Opps, I'm a Hillbilly. I also use this one during airhead moments, "I was born blonde." I think we all at times group people together for some reason or another. It's not right but in many ways I do believe it's human nature.

No I can honestly say I am not. To my beliefs, and how I feel is that everyone, is a human. We are all the same. There is good and bad of each. Blessings, M&M

I have not experienced this. And I live in a country with 132 different nationalities. I think on the whole... a smart immigrant would not insult the people of his host country. To answer your question... What is the difference between lashing at someone's country if they have insulted you... And lashing at someone about how fat they are after being insulted? The fact of the matter is... if you are under attack... you will use whatever you have at the present moment to defend yourself. It is not racism. It is self preservation and pride.
