Type 1 diabetes is a condition where your pancreas is not able to secrete a hormone called insulin at all. So there is a complete deficiency of insulin in the body. Now the most important role of this hormone is to control the blood sugar levels. So in the absence of insulin the blood sugar levels go v high causing diabetes...so to keep them normal, a type 1 diabetic has to take insulin injections daily. Skipping insulin injections can be v life threatening...so they are a must..also it is very imp to keep blood sugars as close to normal as possible to prevent the body 4m developing multiple complications due to high sugars...if a type 1 diabeic regularly takes sufficient doses of insulin daily, keeps blood sugars under perfect control, then they can lead a life as normal as u and me.

Try to interest her in doing activities with you. Swimming with people in her age group, water aerobics, dancing, going for walks, things of this nature. I too have an addiction to sweet things, and it is very difficult sometimes. I tell myself, ok, if I eat this what is my body going to feel like? If I have a long day of working, or if I am with my kids, I do not want to feel sluggish and yuk, I want to feel good. Teach her to keep a diary of things she is doing and how she feels afterwards. God be with you, I hope you can help her, I know you must love her!

You're mother is an adult and there for must make her own choices. You can suggest, you can talk with her about your concerns but you can't force her to change her behavior. Restricting her might actually make it worse because she might feel the need to do it more. Try talking with her, suggest alternatives that she can have that are sweet. Things like Angel Food Cake, this is a sweet food she can have. Work on a menu for her. Other then that you'll have to let her determine for herself whether she wants to keep to the new way things have to be or whether she is going to continue as she has. You have to let her make that choice otherwise it won't do much good.

It does happen that many people get tempted only when they are restricted. Dont try to restrict her but try explaining her. May be you can ask her to do yoga regularly. It will help in the long run.. both to reduce weight and diabetes as well.
