Rape - what should be the punishment

I know over here in England, the government are looking at changing the punishments for rape. Leas than 10% of rapes are actually reported, this is due to over 85% of rape trails are failed to be seen as rape, as the judge sees them as ABH instead. Which totally belittles the victims. At the moment many rapists get sent to prison for 4 years, get free therapy, and get out in under 2 years. And what does the victim get? I know of one rape victim who after 3 years, is still waiting for councelling off the NHS.
I was just wondering what your opinons of the rape crisis is?

Here in sweden it´s even worse. Most rapist don´t even get convicted and even if they do, it varies from 10 months to maybe 2 years.
There was recently a case where the rapist, despite technical evidence was set free just because the girl didn´t seem to suffer that much from it..
I mean it´s just sick.
Tp rape someone should be highly punished, coz belive me - a person who gets raped has to live with it every day for the rest of her life!

This makes me mad, just because it seemed like she didn't suffer from the experance doesn't mean she didn't. I know 3 people who have been raped and all of them just wanted to get there lifes back to normal, so they started by acting normal. Justice systems make me so mad!

I believe there should be a punishment. I don't know what or how long but even if one is not punished here on earth they will be judged by God one day and I would be scared of that day!

im with you too. i think that rape punishent should be really harsh, i dont like how alot of them get off with the crime they have committed

Yeah I agree totally with you. Even if we dont punish the rapist or if they walked out free or found innocent, on Judgement Day, they will be thrown out to hell.

Any rapist should be given a punishment that is severe and also bring him to a point where he realizes the damage he has done to a Girl's life and her family..!!! If he escapes punishment now hE SHOULD KNOW that one day is is Gonna get caught...!!!

I definitely feel that they should get more than four years in jail as this is a very serious crime and they should be serving many years in prison. The chances of them doing something like that again are pretty high so I think they should be in there longer than that. I would feel unsafe if I had been the victim and found out this person was getting out that soon. 4 years is just too short for this type of crime.

The penalty for rape should be a few years less than "muder" or "serial" depends on the ammount of times.
i also think pedos should be judged the same way as rapist but i think this shouldn't be under "relationships" =)

i didnt know where to post it :S i would have asked but you werent on msn :( coz i know you would know where to pop this. i do agree with out, i think maybe more judges should be more understanding, they seem to dismiss rape claims, even when there is sufficiant evidance. to be honest i hate the judges over here in the uk, a friend of mine was raped and her rapist only got 40 hours community service, and she still sees him now, which makes her really scared. aswell as he keeps trying to contact her too, it does get in the way of her current relationship too. as she is now really clingy and scared of loosing her partner. but she is happy he understands and really supports her

i know this is my point,rape ruins a girls life...it may cause her to be really clingy of her future partners, or maybe even be scared of physical contact again

most rape cases are not reported as the fear that remains within the victim .I know that after all these years i still feel ashamed and i don`t want anyone to know about what happened.but putting them in prison is giving them a reward the victim suffers the rest of their lives

I feel rape is an aweful crime. It is a shame that women are treated that way. I actually feel that the rapist should be sent to prision where they are the fresh meat and can be continually be raped. . . . I believe an eye for an eye.

If i had control over this situation all crimanals that have been caught doing this they should have there nut's cut off for doing this and if they try it a second time then life in prison (two strikes and your out)the law needs to quit letting men or woman that are repeat offenders go so easy.

Life! I think they should get life because when they commit this type of act, they ruin the life of the girl forever. Although it is something you can get over, it's always in the back of your mind and never goes away. I think rapists need to receive the harshest punishment possible.

I think it was a Taliban way of dispensing justice but i am going to recommend it as the form of punishment for Rapist.100 lashes with a finely woven leather interlaced with spikes.The venue would be a football stadium,admittance free,or a small fee could be charged to cover cost.

There should be appropriate punishment for this type of offences. For this england has to make modification in their law of rule , constitution & legal proceedings. So that no one can even think of it. But at the same time it is also to be ensured that misuse may not happen of such ruling.

raped by the government? how??? they get free college education, intrnet access, 3 meals a day, cigerettes, time to work out, books and magazines to read...how are they getting raped by the government?
