That's funny...I was born and mostly raised in Alaska. I was primarily in Anchorage though. At the age of nineteen, I moved from Alaska to Hinesville, GA. Talk about culture shock. I moved in the middle of summer too. The humidity about killed me, lol. Alaska is a beautiful place. The wilderness will take your breath away. It will be a tough adjustment for her at first. There is really not much you can do from GA to help her, other than encourage her. There are many different cultures in that area...eskimo, russian, oriental, as well as rugged old timers. Most of them are very friendly though. Just reassure her, that she can do it. Why did she go there...work, military, or some other reason? Personally I think it is easier to adjust in a place like Anchorage, where there is a bit more culture, but Fairbanks can be nice too. If I can answer any more specific questions I will be happy to do so. I really miss Alaska.

She got married and her hubby is stationed at Ft wainwright. So far she loves it...can you give me any good places they sight see and visit when the snow melts somewhat? I am hoping to visit this summer. What brought you to hinesville? Lord yes that place is hot. I am closer to atlanta.

Denali National Park is glorious in the summertime. There are lots of places to visit and things to do. I am more familiar with Anchorage and southern Alaska though. Fairbanks itself in the summer is wonderful...warmer than most of the rest of the state. As for Hinesville, my sister was dating a guy at Ft. Stewart, and lived there. I had just gotten divorced and wanted out of Alaska...so I left. I was very young. I wish I would have stayed in Alaska, I miss it terribly. I live in Oregon now, so that isn't too bad. I have mountains and snow here, and the weather isn't too bad. I did enjoy GA while I was there though, I learned alot.

Well I haven't been there myself but friends have, and it is dreadfully cold there! Snow and ice ,yuck. If it was my baby there, I would be saying Come home to momma! Butttttt in real life my baby say nooooo, and I would be trying to do as you. Send her warm blankets or quilts, and sock ,cute warm boots, houseshoes, and always ask do you need anything?Or can I send you something?Want anything?Calling her or writing or emailing her will help home sickness, and sending things from home will make her smile. It would me if my mom would do that(but my mom lives next door and I do get too many pies and cakes sent my way, thats why I am fat!LOL!).Good Luck.
