Insomnia

Lately I have been having bouts of insomnia. When I go to bed at night I feel sleepy. Once my head hits the pillow my eyes refuse to shut. I toss and turn for hours. Often times I have to get up and go to the living room for a while so I don't disturb my husband. I have a herbal tea that is for menopause and is to be drank before bedtime. I guess I will have to start drinking it every night to ensure that I sleep better.

Try to be careful about daily use of herbs, they do build up over time for better effect, however, you don't want a tolerance to it either. Didn't you sleep last night after the trip to the mall! That surely would give me reason to sleep after all that fun! Warm milk does wonders too. Also I have a radio so that I can lay and rest even if I don't sleep...and oops, I am waking up, must have gotten some sleep! Good luck with this!!

i dont know what is ur daily schedule but i can tell u if ur sleeping in the afternoons or taking a nap in afternoons, then stop that. and if ur not taking that then do some exercise and u will feel tired and u will go to sleep easily as exercise releases hormones which induce sleep... hope this helps... as i think u should not become addicted to tea... enjoy...

This happens to me about once every other week or so. In my case I think it is stress induced. It seems to happen after my mind has had a very active day. ~Donna

I've had insomnia a few time lately and I have been paying attention what I have had to eat or drink before I go to bed. It makes me wonder if what we eat or drink has something to do with insomnia. If I eat or drink anything within two hours before going to bed at night I've noticed that I have insomnia. If I eat anything with sugar in it at all I get insomnia every time. It's worth it at the time I'm eating something sweet but not worth it when I'm trying to go to sleep. Too much stress causes insomnia too and sometimes it's hard to get past that. Look at what you have been going through lately, I bet it has a lot to do with your insomnia. Hope it all gets better for you very soon. Hugs!

i think it has alot to do with menopause. i had a total hysterectomy 3 three years ago, and have not slept a night since. i've tried many herbal teas, pills, and nothing helps. i have to take sleeping pills every nite,,and now i think i'm addicted. we went away for a weekend, and it was the worst in my life.. no sleep for 3 whole days. i just laid there with my eyes shut and nothing... it really worries me that i will never be able to stop.. and its expensive too.

I have had problem sleeping for a long time. according to my mother, since birth. ha ha But really, I am not kidding. I would be the one awake still doing that stare into the dark. I used to talk all the time and keep my dad awake. But my dad then got a clock radio and would turn on the AM Talk show. LOL This way, I listened to others talk and if I talked, it didn't make a difference. But when I moved in with my mother, she wouldn't allow me to have the radio on at night...I got very bored and would do the staring again. When I got married...sadly, he didn't like the radio either. But by that time, I wanted a fan so it would drown out the noises from outside. It helped my imagination stay calm. LOL You know, what was that? Is there someone out there? What that a stick breaking? But now, I have a meditation CD. It helps me to go to sleep. And when I wake up, I push play again. But I still do not get to bed before 2am on good days.

I do have the same problem as you. Its been going on for years now. When I go to bed I just cant't seem to fall to sleep.I dont take any sleeping pills because I dont like to depend on them. I did try the tea but it did not work for me. The only thing that works for me is reading.I get a good book and read and before I no it I'm ready to drift off.

I would suggest you keep urself constantly engaged in hard-working chores throughout the day like having physical work ,constantly indulged in some or other mental activity ......and in the evening going for walk or performing some yoga would defenitely help u to have nice sound sleep in the night...

Insomnia is pathetic, we wont get a sleep and feel sort of boredom whole day. I think you can take something like in the below suggestion: (1)Do some exercises daily and make sure that your body is tired. That gives you good sleep. (2)Eat heavily during dinner for few days. That makes you to go to bed quickly. (3)Dont think too much. It is difficult, but you can give a try. I suggest not to use medicine often. Rather try to get it solved naturally. Wish you get recover soon :)

It could very well be a side effect to the rx you are taking now for the menopause. You should talk to your doctor. If the rx is not the case, he should be able to give you a sleeping pill. Or you could try Tylenol's Simply Sleep.

hmm.. having insomnia is really something to be taken care of.. i was juz like that before.. what i did was.. i really made myself tired.. (of course not that much..) enough for me to have a good night sleep.. its also a habit for me to drink a cup of milk before going to bed.. it somehow helped coz whenever i drink it.. its like my brain's telling me that.. "oops.. there goes the milk! have to sleep!!" hehe.. it may sound funny but it became effective to me!^^ now that you're drinking that herbal tea before bedtime.. make it a hobby.. i'm sure in a couple of days you'll be in a good sleep..^^

What kind of tea do you drink? There are so many herbs that are great for relaxing that can help ease insomnia... Chamomile, Valerian, Passion Flower, Lemon Balm, and Peppermint are just some examples.

I hope you have gotten some good sleep by now. I don't think I would like it if I don't sleep at all. I would be grumpy woman for awhile.

I feel for you...I've suffered from insomnia for many many yrs unfortunately and now I have to talk medication to help me sleep...it'd be nice if I could sleep longer but at least I'm sleeping more than 2 or 3 hours a night now LOL.... What about doing some gentle yoga after your tea or difusing some lavendar in your room maybe? if you dont mind my asking what do you do generally right before goin to bed, are you busy getting things ready for the next day or are you watching tv and so on? If so why not try a different routine? I know that if I'm running around right before goin to bed (like last night) even WITH my meds I dont fall asleep easy nor do I sleep well at all...

I find that when I watch tv later in the evening I have trouble shutting down. I think that drinkng something warm will help me to relax. I use lavendar spray on my bedcovers. My mattress warmer is on so that I can snuggle in, but still there are times when I just can't relax.

I love Ovaltine. What is Horlicks? I stopped taking my anti-depressant about 2 months ago. I may be having problems with that still.

I find that the more time I spend out in the fresh air the better I sleep. Just a suggestion, but try a brisk afternoo walk. I know that if I spend most of my day indoors, I do not sleep as well at night.

Try black cohosh _ I get a complex from Walmart that helps and try melatonin. It definitely helps me. What is this herbal tea that you are talking about? I would love to know.

Tell me more about this tea. I am up every morning at about 7, at anytime during the day, if I sit down, I fall asleep. I go to bed at midnight, 1, 2, 3 AM and can't fall asleep until about 4 or 4:30. It is making me insane. So I need to hear more about your tea. I have started taking Tylenol PM the past 3 nights. This gets me to sleep usually within an hour and keeps me sleeping for about 4-5 hours.
