I do not understand why dont they hire a doctor to do the medical evaluations on people first when they bring them into the police stations? Now this girl is suing the police because she told them when she was arrested that she was pregnant and bleeding...it was videotaped and yet they ignored her and did not get her medical attetion? She has lost the baby and is suing the police because of it.Dont you feel that a medical evaluation should always be donr first, since there are so many people who arent insured and dont get medical treatment?

Not in all cases where there is no reason to suspect that anything is wrong. But certainly in the case you are citing if she said she needed attention they should have take her immediately even before she was taken to the station. The problem is that many of our hospitals are overcrowded and by taking in people for examination who do not need it. Then others who may be a lot worse off are made to wait. Also that would tie up two officer for probably at least another two hours when they could be out making the streets safer.

I did not see the video yet but I was very saddened to hear this, and I am very sorry that she lost her baby. I just feel that if she could have gotten medical attention , it may have saved her child.

Too bad one little life has gone due to the carelessness of other people. It is a difficult situation to assess who is wrong and who is right. Lets just wait and see.

Wow! I can't believe things like this happens. The girl should have been taken to the hospital right away. I don't think a medical evaluation should always be done first because that would be an unnecessary expense but if a person is complaining they should be brought immediately. I don't blame the girl for suing the police.

The situation at hand is that the police officers were in power, and they exercised power over good judgement. For all the anti-abortion folks, they should be calling for these guys heads on sticks. But I think the reality of this is a couple of totally insensitive human beings on a power trip. Happens more often than we hear. Sad, but true.

I saw that on the news and it was pitiful she kept begging for help. I honestly could not believe it. She should sue them for manslaughter. They killed her baby. An ambulance should been called before they INSISTED she get into the squad car.

Quite frankly I believe that officers of law get hardened and so use to being lied to that they tend to disreguard anything a suspect is saying, for all they knew she was just having her period and looking for an excuse not to go to lock up right away. The fact is they have a resposiblity to make sure the offender is safe. She could not at the time due to imprisonment see to her own care. Think of yourself in her case, disreguard what she might have done to cause her situation but think of the fear she must have been feeling. I feel she is justified in her suit.

I have to agree with your post. I think your judgement is very wise. How can we improve society so that things like this wont happen anymore? You are right when you are confined you have no way to seek the help that you need.

very good point..iam surprised that that isn;t carried out..they are liable as it is a violation of her humaa rights and the rights if the unborn child..that is quite barbaric in a civilised world we are supposed to be inhabiting..

Its very scarey to think that anyone would have to go through this. I hope that it make them all more cautious about peoples medical conditions. We have to be mor civilized than this, because not everyone is going to lie and not everyone is faking it when they ask for an ambulance.

Well not sure about the rest , but when she told them she was pregnant and bleeding and they did nothing. I believe she has grounds for a law suit. That was an individual life they ignored. If there is clearly a need for medical treatment they have no right to with hold it. Don't you think./

The police are just doing their job. "At the time she was arrested",she can make that as an allyby that she was bleeding....Theres a lot of means to escape. If she is pregnant, beforehand she must have felt contractions or pain and called 911 before it gets worse...have a commom sense.

I dont think you can stop a miscarriage once it starts. So, theres no way she could have controled when it was going to happen. It dosent metter if she was already in the process of it or not,she needed an abulance...and once the police had her , she could not call 911. You also have to take into consideration that she may not have known what was wrong because you just know that you are in alot of pain and only a doctor can clarify these medical situations.

if she called 911 they'd send an ambulance. And that's an expensive ride. My wife miscarried last march, and we drove to the hospital. We're still paying the bills on that one because we hadn't met our insurance deductable yet. The price would've been more than double had we taken an ambulance.

Its a bit of a catch 22, i mean i feel for this girl. But at the same time, for every person that does have a legitimate medical problem im sure there are countless ammounts of people who use this to try and get out of trouble, the police have to do there job
