I smile to people and they smile back to me. This is a good idea because you make new friends. Sometimes you see serious faces and a smile makes them smile too.

I used to be the most friendly person who'd smile at everyone. Then I moved to this big city and learned (the hard way) that the majority of people will come up and harass you. Some will ask for money, others will follow you. It sucks! I hate not being able to be friendly...but I had more having to deal with people trying to scam me or sell me something! Although I work in this huge skyscraper with my company only taking up 6 floors of the building. It's hilarious to see all the high-ranking partners in the firm. I'll smile at them b/c I know them, but they always look uncomfortable as to whether or not they know me and should smile back. All my other coworkers have the same experience. To me, that's just ridiculous. I'm in the same elevator as you, wearing a suit. Would it really kill you to smile at me, whether or not we work for the same firm? That's just ridiculous!!
