Do you do your dishes in any specific order??

I was taught to do my dishes like this, first the glasses, then the silverware, then plates, bowls, then pans. Well, I hate washing silverware, so I usually save that till last. So now I do them, glasses, plates, bowls, pans, then silverware. Do you think it makes a difference? In what order do you wash yours?? Do you think that becuz I wash my silverware last, that it's less clean?

I always wash the pots and pans last because they can make your water and washer greasy which doesn't allow you to clean the glasses, plates etc. properly. They may finish up streaky. This is from my lining alone experience in Australia. Here in Thailand my wife does the dishes.

When doing dishes by hand I wash the glasses first, then the silverware, plates, bowls, and the pans last. When I put them in the dishwasher I put in whatever I happen to grab first. I think as long as the pans are washed last that the order of the rest of the dishes does not matter. Only because pans in most cases are greasy and if the pans were washed first the greasy residue would stay on the rest of the dishes.

OMG I dont miss washing dishes by hand at all...I cant stand doing it LOL luckily though we have a dishwasher now but the funny thing is I load the dishwasher the same way I use to hand wash LOL..Plates first (dinner to saucer), then bowls, coffee cups, glasses, silverware and cooking utensils...then whatever pots fit but if they dont i usually either do them in a seperate load or get my hsuband to wash them LOL

Seems this is a very popular sequence to do the dishes. I do them the same way, except I usually wash the silverware with the glasses and mugs. I don't think it makes your silverware any less clean just because you wash it last, as I don't feel my pots and pans are any less clean because I wash them last. If we have a lot of dishes, then I'll change my water in better doing the bowls and pots and pans.

I put the plates and silverware on bottom to soak. I do the glasses, bowls, plates, pans and then silverware. I never thought about order before. Isn't it strange just how many things you do, without even realizing how you do them.

I have nevre thought about the order either - until this discussion. I usually do two loads of dishes because my dish dryer can only hold so much, so first I do the silver ware then the glasses and plates. On the second load I let whatever need to soak some time while the other dishes are drying (I don't like to hand dry). Then I do the pans and whatever else needed time to soak.

dishes are the bane of my existance and I avoid them at all costs.. lol.. usually I do up what I need to cook just before I start to cook and I wash up what I need to serve while I'm cooking.. lol... usually they all just pile up on my counters.. but if I do get energetic enough to do them; I just do them as I grab them from the pile.. although the pots and pans tend to just sit there soaking until I need them to cook with.. lol.. I'd love to have a dishwasher but I'll just wait until my kids are a little bit older then that will be a punishment.. lol.. and a worse punishment there isn't :)

My mum taught me to do that, you shuld leave the cutlery til last because St Peter puts any lost teaspoons back in the bottom of the bowl so you have to give him time.

I dont know that I do the dishes in a specific order but I always try to get the bigger things out of the way first then the last thing I will do is the spoons and forks and things like that. But sometimes I just go at it and grab whatever is closest to me.

We usually use the dishwasher, but when I do things by hand I tend to do glasses first, then plates & bowls and then silverware. My sink area isn't big enough to do everything at once, so I'll get that stuff rinsed and put away, then move on to pots & pans. Many times when I do dishes by hand it doesn't matter the order because I use one of those scrubbers that keeps soap in the handle. No dirty water to sit in.

I can't believe that we were taught the same way, I just assumed that my mom was nuts about there being a certain order to wash dishes in. LOL However I did learn to wash my dishes glasses, silverware, plates, bowls, and last the pans. I hated the silverware early on so when ever she wasn't paying attention I always saved it for last, I think I hated it so much because there was so much of it. I came from a family of 6, so alot of dishes andtons of silverware. Anyways back on track, I now do my dishes glasses, bowls, plates, pans, silverware. I don't think that the silverware is less clean because you do it last, I think so long as you wash you dishes thoroughly and rinse them completely your fine.

I don't know why I am like this but after I cook I can not sit down to eat unless I clean the pots and pans first. After the pots and pans are done, I will sit down to eat. Then all that is left are the plates, glasses and utensils. It's really not that bad since I use non-stick cookware, cleaning the pots and pans are fast. I do not have a diswasher, they are not allowed in my apartment building.

I was taught to wash the glasses and the silverware first because it touches your mouth then plates, bowls, and pans last.

Well, I never really thought of this but I do do it in a order even when putting them in the dishwasher. I do the the cups first to see if I can fit any pots or bowls at the top since I can not put anything covering the bottom (the dishes would not get cleaned) then I put the long flat ware on the top, then I start at the bottom with my salad bowls on the sides to see if I can fit them all, then the plates and then any casserole dishes on the sides. Everything else is where every I can fit it. Then I place my flatware in (I usually have them soaking to make sure they don't have caked on food and I really hate getting poked in the arm while putting in other dishes.) I would do the same thing while cleaning by hand, but leaving the greasest to the last.

There's no really order when I wash dishes. But I usually wash the plate first so I could place the spoon and fork there before I finally wash it. I usually wash the containers (this could be a plate or cup) first for small stuff.

I kinda wash what ever I grab and I personally think that it is easier this way . I don't need to specify wish should I wash first or categorise them. I do categories them after I wash them. Then I wipe them and put it in to the cabinet and drawer ( depending what type of the dishes. )

It is good that you were taught some system in general thing like doing dishes. Who ever taught you is a wonderful person I must say. I don't mind what I wash first, but I like some system in the arrngement of dishes after washing them. Like all small glasses in the front then the large glasses behind , then small round plates, then big plates etc etc. I think any thing that you do in life should have some system. It is always nice to work sytematically.

I do mine in this order, big plates, small plates, cereal/soup bowls, glasses, flatware, serving bowls, pots and pans. I wash the pans last because the dish water is always nasty after they are done.
