Can you use apple cider in any recipes? I've never really used apple cider and don't recall seeing any recipes that used it...anyone have any ideas?

You can use apple cider anywhere you would use any other liquid. I think pork and apple are a wonderful combination. Try this stew: Dorine's Pork and Cider Stew 4 oz,/110g dry great northern beans, picked over and rinsed 1 bay leaf 1/4 cup/60ml olive oil 1 lb./450g pork, cut into cubes 2 large onions, halved vertically and sliced thickly 1 quart/1 litre apple cider, more as needed 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into cubes 4 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes 4 fat carrots, peeled and cut into thick slices 2 T./30ml dried juniper berries Tie in a square of cheesecloth: 6 whole black peppercorns 4 whole cloves 1 bay leaf 1 tsp./5ml whole rosemary leaves (not ground!) 1 small head red cabbage, quartered vertically 2 T./30ml beurre manie Salt amd freshly ground black pepper to taste Chopped fresh tarragon or flatleaf parsley to garnish Whole caraway seeds to garnish Prepare the great northern beans; soak overnight in cool water or speed soak in the microwave. Rinse and place in a auce pan with water to cover by 1"/3cm and the bay leaf. Bring to a good simmer but do not allow to boil. Cook, covered, at a gentle simmer for an hour, or until tender enough to mash agaist the side of the pan with the back of a spoon. Do *not* add salt while cooking beans! It keeps them from ever getting tender. Heat oil over medium flame in a Heavy-bottomed Dutch oven and brown the pork and onions. Add cider and increase flame to high. Add squash, sweet potatoes, carrots and juniper berries. Add cheesecloth filled with spices. When the boil breaks, reduce to a simmer and cook, covered, 15 minutes. Add cabbage wedges and cooked breat northern beans; cook 30-45 minutes, or until all ingredients have reached desired degree of tenderness. Add cider as needed to maintain liquid level. Add beurre manie and simmer, stirring, until the edges begin to bubble and the sauce thickens. Reduce heat immediately. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve in a stew bowl garnished with fresh herbs and a sprinkling of caraway seeds.

I made homemade cider donuts a few years back. I replaced the liquid with apple cider and they came out wonderful. I have also used apple cider when making gravy for a pork roast. So good.

i love cooking pork in cider, here is my way of doing it. First pan fry enough pork steak for the number of people you have,. Now mix one pint of cider with corn flour and whip in to a smooth sause and braise your pork in it until your liqure reduces . Keep scraping your pan and season with salt and pepper, its great

I make a fruit chutney that is to die for. Apples, raisins, canned whole cranberry sauce, brown sugar, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon & a touch of nutmeg. All simmered together until thick. Great with pork, ham, beef, turkey or chicken or eaten all by itself. YUMMY!
