a and b drives are still reserved for the floppy drives .... in earlier pcs we used to have 2 floppy drives .. one is 3 1/2 inches and the other is 5 1/4 inches ... these drives were given the names a: and b: .....

drive A: and B: set to default for floopy disc, If you are not used floopy disc again they will not showing. if you just want to show it in your computer just go to your BIOS then set that drive but without hardware you will can't access it!

Because they have become obsolete. First computers only had external hard drives. You put in your operating disk, booted up, took it out, put in the program disk, started the program, took it out and put in your data disk. Then someone had the bright idea to add a second drive. Now you have two drives A and B, one for operating system and one for other disks. Next hard drives were integrated into the tower, shortly thereafter in quick succession floppies were downsized from 5 inches to 3.5 so you needed a drive for each then that gave way to CD drives, one of the floppies (B) was dropped to make room for the latest innovation, and so it continued. Some computers still have an A drive while others have D and E. Networks have added F, G and so on. Is this true? I don't know, but it sounded good.
