One time, my hubby and I (I am white, he is North American Indian) went out to the insurance company to renew his drivers liscence. He had the old drivers liscence(picture i.d. and everything) with him. There were no outstanding tickets, or unpaid fines, nothing. It was simply time for a yearly renewal, cost $25. Generally what happens is we go in, pay the money$25, hand in old liscence, get new liscence, and then go home. Well, not that time. The girl behind the counter (she was white like me ) looked at my hubby and asked him for his I.D. So he handed her his expired Picture I.D. drivers liscence. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the photo on the liscence was 5 yrs old, and he needed to get his picture taken again. But it was still his i.d. and it was still him. So anyways, she asked for another peice of ID like a birth certificate, or passport. Well, what the heck is that all about?A passport? To renew an expired liscence? As if!!!She told him to go home, apply for passport, wait six weeks, then come back and she would take a picture of him and renew his liscence ( for $25). We left. We went directly across the street to the other insurance company. My hubby walked in and gave the white girl behind the counter his expired liscence and the $25. She asked him to step behind the counter, take off his hat, and smile. Then she took his picture, accepted his payment, and processed the renewal. All done in less than 10 mins. We left and we were happy. About an hour later, we happened to see the first lady out and about on her lunchbreak. My hubby was driving. I felt like giving that lady the finger. I hope my hubby did. So what are your thoughts?

very rare. It was an old lady i worked with, who wondered why my mother in law was Ok with our marriage (I am Asian and he is white British). But she was 44 yo and not married, she must be kind of desperate to get married and wondered how come someone so young have got a husband (I was 24 at the time and she thought I was 18 LOL). then my husband's niece who is a smoker, she smoked even when she was pregnant. her husband kept telling her not to and he told her that I don't smoke, which is true. and so she said that Asians are weak. I was going to say that we are also not stupid - smoking when pregnant, but why bother? She is hurting her own baby anyway, not mine.

How weird. Now, I was told in Oklahoma, if my license was expired, I might have to take my birth certificate to the tag agency. But there would never be any 6 week wait. That is awful and I wish they had a complaint form for you to fill out. I have experienced racism. I am white, and for 12 years lived in a 90% black city - my dad was a pastor there. One day I was walking on the local school's track, exercising, and we passed a black lady (African-American if you prefer). I said, "Hello Maam." I thought it would be rude to walk by her and not say anything. Well, for the sake of mylot guidelines I won't tell you what she said, but it was awful and filled with racist rants. I was so surprised. I'm sure everyone, of all colors, will experience racism at least once throughout their life. It's just too bad that once is not always all a person experiences.

I did never experience racism even though there are lot of different people living in my area. Our place has a reputation of having Unity in Diversity.
