Hello! It's hard to say who is the best one! There are many very good bassists in the world. Willie Weeks, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson, Dave Holland, Stanley Clarke, NHOP (Niels-Henning), Paul Chambers, Rocco Prestia, C. Mingus, Eddie Gomez, Arield Andersen........ They all are different kind of bassists. In different genres. Greetings from Finland!!!

Hi All, Stu Hamm is Satriani's bass player. Victor Wooten is the bass player from Bela Fleck & the FLecktones & he is one of the best. His brother started teaching him before he could walk. He was doing gigs in the Norfolk, Va area with his family band when he was 6. Definitely impressive.

Billy Sheehan is incredible. He's my idol. I wouldn't have gotten so far in my bass playing if it wasn't for billy sheehan, victor wooten, and john myung. They're all amazing.

I don't think there's any such "best bassist" in the world. But there are "best bassists" when it comes to styles, depending on your preferences. Victor Wooten is one of the most influential and creative guys out there, with a really nice personality. Marcus Miller is just too funky. Les Claypool is original and one of a kind. (so are his basses) Steve Bailey has to be the most impressive fretless bassist in the world, at this moment. Jaco is just amazing and no one can touch him on fingerstyle. So many "best bassists", but for me, it just has to be Jaco for fingerstyle and Marcus Miller for slap.

John Deacon of Queen. The guy's playing was just so subtle. Never stepped all over the other parts. I mean, between Freddie Mercury's operatic vocals and Brian May's equally flamboyant guitar work, Deacon didn't have much room to work with, but he still has some of the most beautiful bass lines around. Plus, anyone who could come up with the bass lines to "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Under Pressure" is pretty awesome in my book

I can't really pick one bassist to be the best because they all have different styles. A favorite of mine though is Pino Palladino. He has wonderful command of melody. He picks the right notes all the time. Another one would be Lee Sklar. This guy is probably the epitome of what a bassist should be. He personifies the "less is more" philosophy, often sticking to simple notes to provide a solid groove. And of course Sir Paul McCartney. Those are my favorites.

John Myung is hands down the best. Some others to check out are Brian Bromberg and Jaco Pastorius. Both awesome jazz bassists.

I think Billy Sheehan would be the perfect category for it, and also Steve Lawson, i just idolized them both.

I would bring it down to 3 amazing bassists. John Myung, Billy Sheehan, and Victor Wooten. Billy has his awesome rock talent and can shred like no other. John has his advanced techniques and complicated progressional music and is very very very talented. And Victor Wooten. He is very smart. Very out there. I've met him at a bass clinic and he has his way with words. He's funky, talented, and quite amazing.
