you know what?YOu have the same problem with my sister back in the Philippines. Before I cant sleep with lights off too but, I get the hang off it when I had been working al day and been really tired.I just get to sleep fast and I dont mind if the lights were off or on.I just became used to it.Maybe u can start getting a dimmer light just to make you feel secured or something.

I am just opposite to you Yana. I keep light off before going to bed. Though I can sleep with or without light. But I prefer off. In your case, first you try for an hour or 2 to sleep in awakening condition without light and then keep it on just before sleep comes to you. By doing such practice for few days, you will see that you are able to sleep even light is off. 1 or 2 day you will feel awkward at primary stage. Keep it on. It will become a habit automatically.

Well I think the only way you can overcome it is to first determine what caused you to be fearfull of the dark. Something in you past caused this and until you work that out you more than likely will not be able to do much. If you have a husband or boyfriend you are liveing with perhaps they can help a litle but if not you need to work it through yourself. Fear of the dark is the feeling of vonerability. You feel that something can sneek up on you and you would not be able to see it in time to fight back. So what is wrong with sleeping with a night light. Doesn't have to be bright just something that will let you see if you should wake up. The light can be in the other room as long as you can see it from your bedroom. I wish you well.

I had this problem too. What helped was that I would leave a lamp on for a few weeks, and get used to that. Then I'd leave a night lite on, and get used to that. And then I'd turn off the light completely. If that is too difficult, try carrying a small flashlight near your bed, so if it gets too much for you, you have a source of light nearby. I slept with the light on until I was 14 and it was a good day when I no longer had to do that. I prayed an awful lot too!
