Linux is my current operating system. I don't use Windows since 2006. Linux has a lot of advantages: it's not attacked by virus, worms ect; you don't have to defragment your hard disk; it's free, like the Linux software; and many more... Currently I use Mandriva 2006 distribution and I like it, it's easy to use and covers you with a plenty of free software

I use Mandriva 2006 too. I've just saw today that Mandriva 2007 is out. Though, I don't think that I will upgrade the system any time soon, to avoid the trouble of backing up all my important files... I also use Windows 98 (yes, you read it right 98 :) I also have Windows Xp, just in case I want to burn some videos, but I use it like once 3 months or so.

I also have Mandriva 2006 and I'm in the same situation, so I sometimes install mew software from mirrors. In few days I think I will install a new kernel.

currently I use both platforms. bigger chunk is still with MS but it's changing daily as more and more open source programs becomes available especially on desktop publishing and multi-media production. those are basically the reasons why I still use MS.

Currently I use both platforms too, Linux and Windows, but I used Windows last time in 2006. When I need a sotware in Windows I use VMWare to emulate Windows while I use Linux.

I keep hearing really good things about Linux and I have thought about switching over but I have certain concerns. I love ebooks and have thousands but a lot of them say they require windows in order to be read, so is there something that could emulate windows on Linux so i could still read them. ALso, I use Quickbooks for keeping my finances in order. Can that be used on Linux. I actually need the Quickbooks because that is what my accountant has, and that makes it super easy to transfer files to her computer. Can you share some links to places that have more information about Linux. I would like to learn more about it, its pros and cons and what not. thanks.

yeah, it's great! I installed Fedora Core 6 on my girlfriend's pc and I could realize it is really user-friendly! Then, as you say, it is not affected by the typical problems of Windows...
