Should I change my avatar picture to something more appealing/recognizable? It's currently a closeup of me holding a giant moon snail, just because when I joined I wanted something different than the little default picture.

Your avatar is very recognizable, so I would keep it. No one else has anything similar, so it's easy to pick your discussion out of the list of others. That, to me, is the mark of a good avatar. I like ones that are different and unique and can't be confused with anyone else. :D

Aww, thanks, I'll keep my moon snail for now! I was just wondering what people would think about the big slimy gastropod, but I'm a big fan of exploring the shore and checking out all the cool marine invertebrates now that I live on Vancouver island!

I like the moon snail! Don't change it unless you really want to. I chose an artsy-fied picture of myself.

Well I wasn't sure what it was - but it sure is different *wink*....don't see any reason for you change it unless ya are in the mood for a change lol. This from someone who has a picture of a (at the time) week old guinea pig as her avatar LOL Skunk (my avatar) is about 3 months old now.
