Marking Best response- does anyone care?

Hi, I've been avidly responding and excited by this mylot, which is literally fantastic. But what worries me is, the person who starts the discussion, doesn't bother to discuss your comment with you most of the times. Worse still, many persons, after starting a discussion, don't bother to mark the best response. All this leaves a very bad feeling in my mouth everytime I see an imcomplete discussion like this. See, we users spend our time responding to a discussion and I feel the person who start a discussion has the moral responsibility to tell his opinion about our comments and mark the best response without fail. What do you think about this?

yeah, I seen those type of discussion starter before. Their objective here are to earn. They will start allot of discussion and doesn't bother to read them. I my self do mark best respond if I see quality respond or acceptable answer. The thing is I don't mark right away, I will wait until the topic become inactive or a really good answer to the discussion. If I see that the user doesn't mark best respond then I will not answer his discussion. I will follow closely to those that I know that they will mark best discussion. To be best discussion is "hall of best respond". There are actually half of the respond in my best respond that I am really proud of. Feel free to take a look. Mylot have a new "my unresolved discussions" link in the discussions section and this way it allow the discussion starter to manage and mark best respond easily. I do receive allot of old respond as best respond . Some people do mark best respond , just that it took some time. be patient ....

I try to respond to everyone that responds to my discussions, sometimes I just don't know what to say back to them, but I still rate everyone as well. I don't mark a best response until at least a week has gone by so it gives the discussion sometime to pick up other responses. But as of lately haven't had to worry to much about marking a best response seeing as not many get a response to them, but oh well gives me more time to answer my friends discussions and other discussions as well.

Some issues with your question : #1 you cannot "respond" avidly , avid is from avarice which basically means greed (implies TAKING), you can respond actively, energetically ,happily ,promptly, profusely ,prolific manner etc" #2 something that is 'literally fantastic ' is something that is 'untrue' because ,taken literally, fantastic means anything concieved by fantasy , the more commonly known meaning is the 'figurative' one , which means 'very good'

Hi, thanks. Forget the literal meaning, we generally use avidly for enthusiastically and fantastic for something really good. Anyway, thanks for improving my grammer.

thats thinking in a matured way.hope you are not frustrated every one is too paced and doesn't even bother to read the response and the funny thing is the discussions are started by these persons itself and they are not even bothered to read the posts,i have also responded to and also started discussions about this topic and actually everyone came forward with a positive intent, but there are really very good members in this forum and also some fast and furious members.cant blame them and we can't find them to so hope for the best.

Hi, thanks, you are right. I feel, instead of starting new discussions right and left, people should pay attention and participate in the discussions already started as far as possible. What is the use of too many discussions and just one or two responses to each one?

Well, I agree with you that responses given to a discussion should be commented upon by the persons, who started the discussion, this gives a great deal of satisfaction to the persons who resonded after applying their brain. Marking best answer amongst the answers available must be done, so someone who has given the best answer, should be highlihgted and rewarded.

Hi, I joined last week and I came to know about this from the responses. ofcourse the rating really matters I think, though I haven't received any. Because when the rating is there or the best response is there I think it will tempt to give more and more quality response than giving a brief one.

Hi, I feel that it is our responsibility to give our best response always because it is a global community and you have to be expressive and sincere in your comments to justify yourself. You cannot comment purely for the sake of rating or best response awards. It's like cheating ourselves right?

Yes I do care to choose my best response but sometimes I just leave it if I'm not that satisfied with those who respond to me and wait time if somebody will add on that particular topic.

just like you anne_143god, i don't mark best response yet until i get a satisfying response. but it does not mean that i don't care about the responses the members have posted. it's just that i am looking for something else.

We should mark one response as best response. But regarding making a comment, it's not possible for someone to comment everybody who is responding to his/her discussion. If you are getting very few reply then it's fine to comment every body. But how you will manage your time to comment to all response in all your discussion

i have to agree. I myself do choose the best response. I based it on their effort or if sometimes they have given me the answer that i needed. I would also say it in my response or comments. I also make it a point to place or add a comment to people's response to my discussion to show that I have appreciated them giving time to respond on my discussion. I think the person who starts a discussion should at least think of this before starting another discussion

I always check the discussions that I've started to read the responses people make. But marking the best response has not been my way of expressing that I like what they said. Instead, I give my comments after their response so they can see that I've appreciated what they wrote. I rally can't say that a lot of people here really pays attention when giving out responses that's why we always encounter those who just give out a short opinion. But I'm sure that when I do read the best response, I will definitely give him/her the credits through marking it as the best.

I think so too... the topic starter has the obligation to give comments to each response. I hope I'd be able to go with it religiously. On marking the best response...the topic starter has the prerogative to choose the best response, hence he may hang the topic until the best response ,according to his judgment, arrives. Let's just hope it won't take forever.

I think many of us don't even go back to view responses to our own discussions, leave aside reading them and forget about giving them a rating!!

Hi, but it's wrong isn't it? One way of getting future responses is by interacting with them and choosing the best response. You're the senior. What do you think? Thanks.

Hi.... I think you are exactly right! If thats how the ratings work and how people make money then theres no point to this at all if people dont rate responses. As long as people put some effort into the response. If someone puts a one liner then I probably wouldnt rate it as highly as someone who actually takes the time to write a decent response. But im definately with you there... so everyone rate other ppls responses and people will rate yours! Thanks cya

Thanks, I think oneline responders should be demoted in their ranking or their response should not be counted upon the total tally

Well, I usually give someone a best response if he or she deserves one. The problem is, many of my discussions just end up with few replies and it is therefore impossible for me to award anyone a best response.

I start discussions but after a week and I have received enough response, that's when I mark one best response. I guess those thread starters still havent found the best response they're looking for. But I guess most of then really dont care.

I always check my discussions and interact with the people who put their views on the topic and letting them know i am thankful and appreciates their time and effort in responding. I also rate all comments + as much as possible and yes, i also mark best response when appropriate. It makes you build a relationship, and some sort of reputation to your friends and other mylot users. Besides, i should be thankful enough that people responds to my discussions, otherwise, its so sad to see a discussion with 0 response.

Marking the best response ultimately ends the discussion, as you cannot later see a new reply which you deem greater than the one you previously awarded. Therefore I plan not to mark a best response unless it is well after replies have stopped coming in.

Yes, it's partially true, for I still give my comment to discussions in which a best response is already chosen, but I agree, the traffic decrease.
