Do you blow in public, go to the restroom, what is the best? What about the spread of germs?

I think it's fine to blow your nose in public unless of course you are blowing it into the sleeve of your sweater or the sleeve of someone elses sweater for that matter which is just really wrong on many levels.

It depends on how bad you must blow your nose. It can be done into a tissue politely. If it is running and you must blow it, you blow it. It would be more ideal to go to the restroom if possible. One must always wash there hands too, or keep a bottle or tissue of anti disenfectant inside their purse and use it often when sick to stop germs from spreading to others and ones self.

Yes, I like the point that you make; if you must blow your nose in public try to have some antibacterial lotion in your pocket! Of course, most the flu and cold are viruses, which will not be killed by the antibacterial lotions. WAshing the hands is the only way! Another good point you make, if the nose is running, it is more polite to gently dap or blow it rather than let it drip!

I prefer to go to the restroom. I feel self-conscious doing this in public, I would want to make sure that I didn't leave any "traces" on or under my nose, and of course I would have to wash my hands afterwards. I'm very conscious about other people's germs ( I carry hand sanitizer in my purse like a neurotic person), but I am equally considerate to others. If I'm so sick that my nose is constantly dripping, then I won't go out in public and expose everybody else.

hi laurie, must be a nurse thing. I too, always have a bottle hand sanitizer. My family laughs at me, but I don't care. I too, worry about those 'traces' on/under my nose and prefer to go to the restroom to blow! (my husband calls them 'cling ons'!!)

The spread of germs goes as far as your nose to the tissue. I personally go off to a corner/away from individuals to blow my nose, but that is personal preference. I have seen many individuals especially in sports blow there nose on playing fields which is very disgusting, but I guess thats just some people.

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with blowing your nose in public, the tissue paper catches most of the germs. But I do choose to go to the restroom to blow my nose, but not due to germs spreading, because I just feel awkward "cleaning" myself in front of people

Better to blow your nose in public than to pick your nose in public! I don't actually have a problem with people blowing their noses in public. I think it's acceptable as long as they don't touch food until they've washed their hands.

I do not care if somebody blow his nose public, so I blow my nose public too. I use tissue so it is normal.

It is ok and normal for our body to blow our nose in public unless there are people that sorrounds you and never do it without a tissue or a handkerchief. It's annoying for others to see other people doing it without any cover to avoid our saliva from spraying out and eventually spread germs. Doing it on the restrooms as much as possible is the best thing.

i don't blow my nose in public. i am too ashamed to do that. i have to go to the bathroom or anywhere where no one will see me. i don't like people blowing their nose in the public. so gross! if they can still go somewhere like the restroom, then i think they should. I can forgive the children if they blow their nose in public. but adults should not do that, much more without tissue or napkins or handkerchief.

If someone desparetly need to blow the nose, no time to go to restroom, then it's ok in public. You have to make sure you do it with a tissue. But it is always good to go to rest room to get the job done. By that you can make sure you are not spreading germs in public and after blowing the nose you can wash your hand too.

Yes, 'sweetlady' you have gotten to what I consider the central issue, the spread of germs. I agree that often one does not have time to go to the restroom, however if time permits going to the restroom is best so that one's hands can be washed after blowing the nose. There will be germs on the hands after blowing and if not washed, these germs are placed on everything one touches after blowing! That is one of the reasons for the outbreaks that we see of flu and colds!

Please be discreet! I know sometimes you have to after you sneeze but I don't want to hear it. Yuck!

Oh I know! I am a nurse and it even nauseates me, especially if I am eating! There are people crude enough to blow in a restaurant right beside others who are eating!

I always try and do it in private because I know I hate the sound of people blowing their noses and they probably don't want to hear me do it either. I understand that some times you can't do it in private. I can imagine germs spreading really quick.

Oh yes, the sound is particularly disturbing when I am eating in a restaurant and someone at a nearby table sounds like a darned ship docking !

I blow my nose in public. I don't all the time, but sometims you HAVE to. If you use a tissue, there shouldn't be many germs. But, I carry hand sanitizer with me all the time. I use it constantly. :) I would rather not blow my nose in public, but sometimes I have to esp when I have a cold like i do now. :)

I always go to the restroom, so I can wash my hands afterwards immediately. Also I just think it doesn't look very good when people are doing this in public. It is a private thing in my mind. I guess if you absolutely had to do something in public because it was dripping I would just dab it with tissue until I could get to a restroom.

I try to avoid it, however, there are situations where I can't help it. I'm at the dog park, and it's freezing, and my nose starts to run like a tap in the cold, yeah, I blow it. When I'm at work, I try to coordinate it with a washroom visit.

I usually try to go to the ladies room so I can wash my hands after. But sometimes you just have to blow, so I always carry kleenex and antibacterial gel in my purse. I reall hate it when some old guy gives a big honk into his handkerchief while sitting at the table in a restaurant. Oh that makes me absolutely ill.

YUCK! I do not blow my nose in public and I hate to hear someone else do it too. I go to the restroom and blow my nose. Always wash my hands afterward.

It's okay to blow your nose in public if you really have to. As long as you have tissue or napkins to use. But I myself prefer to go to the bathroom to blow my nose. I want to make sure I clean up my nose well after blowing my nose.

Hi crazynurse! I really don't blow my nose in public. I usually look for a restroom where I'd do my thing. I fear that if I blow my nose in public, I could not see if I have cleaned it thoroughly, there might be something left hanging in there. Yuck! lol! But I don't have anything against people blowing their noses in public, I don't know their case, maybe they have really nasty colds and they have to do it, for them to be relieved. That's just my view. Have a nice day!
