Family Prayers

When I grew up we always said grace before every meal. I also always said a prayer before bed, with my Mom, kneeling beside me. I remember those prayers to this day, and sometimes find comfort in repeating them. As an adult, I find that I often say "The Lord's Prayer". My bedtime prayer used to kind of scare me though..."Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. God Bless....Amen." I always went to sleep thinking I wasn't going to wake up in the morning. LOL So what were some of the prayers you or your family used to say? Do you still say them?

Hey CDW :D
Yeah we used that one @ bedtime too LOL Maybe our parents were trying to scare us into being good LOL
I say my old prayers just as a reminder of past times but now when I pray it's more like a conversation than a mantra

Yes, my prayers tend to be much more conversational then they used to be when I was younger. I like it that way too. I get more out of it, and I feel closer to God than ever before. Thank you for your input my friend. God Bless.

I pray as I am falling asleep, after hubby stops talking, and is usually asleep. He falls asleep so much quicker than I do. Thank you very much for sharing. I appreciate your input.

I grew up without religion and prayers. But, about 25 years ago, I was saved and born again. I now have a personal walk with Him, and talk to God daily and pray prayers from my heart. I do it anytime of the day. Sometimes once, other times a lot. I always so grace of thanksgiving at each meal.

I am that way now too. I am continually talking to God throughout my day and seeking his love and guidance. It is a such a peaceful way of living. Thank you very much for your input. I appreciate it.

I still say both of them every night before I have my nightly chat with God thanking him asking his blessing for some of my friends

As kids we also pray in the family, even up to now we still pray together at least every meal. However, we do not have a certain things to say in a prayer it is more like a free pray .. so just say what you want to say kind of things. Before when I was kid I used to say in my prayer when I went to bed to thank God for the blessing for today, and also for Him to watch over me during my sleeping so that I could wake up the next morning, refresh, anew and ready to glorify His name again. And in the morning we say a prayer to say thank you Lord for your blessing in the night and may this day I have peace in my heart and can bring peace also to others and also so that every action, every word, and everything that I do it is to glorify His name. This morning prayer I still say it more or less the same way as when I was a kid. However, the night prayer or the meal prayer have changed, instead of just following certain words to say now I pray from inside my heart. Sometimes I would tell Him about my day today, about my feeling either happiness, anger, sadness, joyful etc2.. I told Him about my dream and problems that I face nowadays things like that. More and more Im trying to renew my relationship with Him and to make it more personal :)

I think that is wonderful. That is how I taught my kids to pray to for the most part; free prayer. I wanted to teach them that prayer didn't have to be scripted. It should come from one's heart. Thank you very much for sharing, I really loved what you had to say. God Bless.

We said that same scary one growing up. I say this with my children:
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, Guide me Jesus through the night and wake me with the morning light.
