Why do employers lie?

When you go for an interview the role is all about "X" and then while you are still under your trial period they decide that you also now need to do "Y" and "Z" which they know if they had told you during the interview, you would never have taken the job! Do they honestly expect people to not tell them where to shove the job?

I guess it's because basically during the interview, as much as you are trying to sell yourself to them so that they would hire you, they as a company,is also selling the position and the company to you so you would take the job.

For me the company is not actually being dishonest there are just situations in the company wherein there is expansion of responsibilities or additional tasks. Sometimes it is a good sign that the company is giving you extra work meaning they see your potential. But of course they need to compensate the employee as well. But is some cases companies do this due to cost cutting. The employee just needs to be assertive in mentioning to the company that she/he must be evaluated and compensate her.

This is problem only with people who are not honest. Some employers want to make sure their business is running and don't pay attention at what cost. Stay away from employers who lie. I know it is hard, but remember this world has good people and good employers, but sometimes it is not easy to find them.

Everybody's trying to sell something. Their marketing the position while you're marketing yourself. It's one big sales talk and usually the employers win because they have the upper hand. They know you need the job and they don't give out all the little details. Remember, there's always a fine print so to speak.
