Hi Friends, I thought that it may be a good idea of sending this out to all young Mum's out here to try and help them By thinking ahead during my pregnancy, we were able to make the change easily to a single income household. When I was pregnant with my daughter, we were wondering how we were going to cope on one income. We decided that when the bills came in, we would pay double the amount owed, for the full nine months I was pregnant. By doing this, we had 'prepaid' our phone, electricity and mobile bills, so we didn't have to pay for any of these after our daughter was born for almost the first year. All we had to worry about was our rent and food bills. While we didn't save money, it made the transition from a two income household to a one income household much easier so if you have the money to do this while you are on a two income then I suggest to do this what do you think about this??

I did something similar. Whilst I was pregnant, whilst we did not get ahead on our bills, we stocked up on non perishable household items. When we went shopping, we would buy extra toilet paper, deodorant, non perishables for the pantry etc....... I even started buying and stocking up on baby stuff too. Lotions, powder, zinc/castor oil cream. These were all things that we would definitely use and can be stored for later. It only cost a little bit here and there and it made a huge difference once I had stopped work.

heya, yeah my sister in law is pregnant at the moment and she is doing the same, buying nappies, lotions, wipes etc. it is a great idea. i suppose i did do this to some extent as by the time our daughter was born we had all the clothes needed for a year and also the pram, carseat, change table and all that type of stuff.

I think it's a wonderful idea, although I'm sure alot of people won't do it.. (: simply because alot of people aren't disciplined enough to. (I know I wouldn't have been when I had my first). When we have our next (which will be our third and our last), we plan on buying diapers and wipes ahead of time.. because we won't be buying diapers for the others, we plan on having them all potty trained before we get preggers again.. (which won't be for awhile, as I have a 4 month old) but we will buy a pack of diapers and wipes once or twice a month, so that when we have the baby, we won't have to buy much of those for awhile. (of course you have to keep the reciept in case you get too many of the wrong size..) Good ideas though!

Heya Kathy, this is a great Idea!! Unfortunately I never thought of it! But I will definatly suggest to ppl I know who are pregnant. It is so hard worrying about all the bills when you have a new baby. Tanika.

This sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately the first child was unplanned so I didn't have a year to do that. So what I did was get a second job while I was pregnant so that I could save up to have a bit more time off after she was born.
