How often do you clean out your email inbox? How many in your inbox?

How often do you clean out your email inbox? I know I should do it more. Right now I have 200+ messages in my inbox. I have created folders, but it has been about 1-2 months since I have gone though my messages and sorted them. How about you? How many messages do you have in your inbox right now? How often do you clean/delete/organize your email?

I probably have several thousand in my inbox, divided into a number of different folders. I get several hundred a day, mostly spam, but I use MailWasher to wash my mail clean, so only the ones that I want go to my inboxes. I have set up a lot of filters for my incoming mail, so the mail goes to the correct folder depending on who the mail comes from and what it is about. My email allows me to have unlimited addresses for the e-mail, so I use this to help sort the mail. It also helps be to distinguish phishing e-mails, as I know what address all my e-mails should have, anything with a mistake in the address I know is suspect. My e-mail at work had a problem recently when something went wrong with one of the computer servers I got an e-mail telling me it had a fault, (this gets copied to my home e-mail account so I can check the faults from home and try and fix them), these e-mails also send me a text to my mobile phone. Unfortunately something went wrong with the way this problem e-mail was sent to me, and I got 2,000 in my inbox at home, (luckily I only got aroun 100 mobile text messages). When I got back to work, I found 74,000 messages in my inbox (and another 40,000 queued in the outbox), however when I checked with the IT department which controls the e-mails there were 350,000 in a queue waiting to go to my inbox, the entire e-mail system then collapsed, otherwise I would have got them all (and possibly a lot more as well). I still haven't got my e-mails totally cleared yet.

That's good that it didn't end up costing you anything.

I don't think I was charged for the text messages as they are normally free, but if I had been on holiday abroad then I could have been charged about 20 p each (around 30 u.s.cents), and if I had got 340,000 of them I think I would have been slightly upset. I must remember to switch this off before my next holiday.

I have a couple of different email accounts. I have 2 for spams. I clean those out at least once a week. I have 2 personal accounts. One I only check once a week, but the other personal email. I check and clean out everyday. My personal emails average about 25 a day. My spam emails are in the thousands because I am a member of a few safelists mailings.

I can't believe people get 1000s of emails a day. I bet it takes a long time to delete them all.

I try to go in daily. I didn't get on at all this weekend and I have over 800 e-mails! I average about 200 plus a day, so if I don't go in frequently, I am just overwhelmed. I also organize and clean and delete at the same time. I spend too much time on the computer!

Allright, you made me feel guilty, so I took some time and went in, I was soooo wrong. I had 1800 emails. So I cleaned most of them out and will continue later. Thanks for the kick in the pants.

I have about 234 unopened messages that I need to answer. I usually go everyday and delete the ones I don't want but I can't seem to catch up.

That's great if you do that every day. I know how easy it is to get behind though.

I check my email everyday. Exactly how many are in there depends on the day. If I am having a busy day I at least try to read my emails and will respond as soon as I get another free moment. Like right now I am trying to pick my way through my emails and respond to discussions that pertain to me.

I go to my inbox everyday and clean it out. Although I never empty my spam folder it has over 4000 emails in it I just ignore it for the most part. I have folders which I sort stuff into and I never get emails from people or programs that I dont want, I simply block them. As far as my lot goes I have chose to decline all emails as I visit here daily and if people want to send me a message or want me to answer their discussion they can tell me about it here I dont need tem polluting me email inbox.

Well i have three e-mails. Main one. This doesn't often get sorted out and i still have e-mails which have been read and need to be deleted. My Projects e-mail. This gets sorted out often because it's important to know where i stand and keep this better organized. My final e-mail. Is where family and friends can contact me again. this is like my first e-mail. why do i use 3? well for my site i don't want my main e-mail being given out and the third's only given to friends. they all re-direct to my main account too so i do read what i get sent. =) Kudos! ~Joey

I am part of quite a few groups, and have many friends in different countries that email me regularly. Some of the groups i belong to are graphics groups that send many messages per day. Sometimes I have a chance to go through my email more regularly but usually i don't. I have to confess that I have about 900 emails to read and sort out .. I'll get to it at some point :)

For you to know, i have more than one e-mail so i categorized them for their importance: work,friends,rubbish... thought i suffer from the number of mails i receive but i think that this idea reduce the size of the problem.

whenever I get up to 200 messages in the mailbox I clean it out. I move to folders and discard old emails. I like to be at about 120 ready emails. I can deal with that many at any one time. I keep them by date received so I can find them.

I clean both of mine out and together it's about 500 on average. It takes some time to cull through them, but I don't want to make mistakes. I usually do it at night.

I try to clean up my inbox everyday, after I've read most of the messages I want to read. Which is about a page full, 100 messages I believe. I don't want it to have so much before I delete messages because sometimes I don't see the important ones that come from relatives.

I try to clean out my inbox and at least put important emails in folders every other week. I still have messages in there though from a long time ago. I figure I may need them but I never look at them so I should just delete.

I try to clean out my email almost everyday o at least every other day if possible because if I go any longer I end up with 2 or 3 hundred emails that I have to sort through which seems to take forever. I created folders too and a lot of times I just move those emails right to the folder and go back and read them a a later date when I have time.
