I always get hungry after 8:00 and find myself wanting to eat another meal from the kitchen. Right now I am on a strict diet and I will make some Jello for tonight because it has no nutritional value at all. I just wish I could stop thinking about food at night... how do you avoid eating late??

Drinking milk helps to flatten the tummy. Go for the low fat stuff, and you will be doing great.

Try getting a hobby to do. Puzzles would be a good one. Maybe try taking a walk if the weather is good enough. You could also post here on Mylot until you get tired and be burning up calories typing really really really fast. I watch TV to get my mind off of food after that time of night. It really helps especially if there is a good movie on.

Actually I have heard that the eating after 8 pm thing is a myth... or that it doesn't always apply. It really depends on your lifestyle, when you go to bed, etc. A lot of times we don't actually get to eat dinner until 8-ish because of work, school, the gym, etc. It's not making us fat. I lost 22 pounds last year and my fiance lost 100. But if you really want to watch - make sugar free jello. It doesn't taste that bad - you get used to it. And it's only 10 calories a serving and 0 carbs. Another trick is to eat a pickle or a boiled egg and a full class of water. It will make you feel bloated and you won't want to eat again for the rest of the night. And an egg has like 1 carb - not sure of the calories... and a pickle has like 5 calories and 1 carb depending on the type you get. The key is really to avoid eating heavy foods after 8 - like no bread, deserts, candy, meat. Try eatting air popped popcorn (no butter). Or maybe carrot sticks.

Try eating your dinner later on. Also sipping water or eating fruit after 8pm will be ok. Try a hot drink to curb your appetite- if you need sugar use sweeteners instead as they have no calories in. Hope this helps.

Well, I wasn't hungry, but now that you mentioned it (and it is 11:30 pm), I think I will go get a snack!

I find that brushing my teeth helps. I'm one of those people who absolutely cannot eat something for at least an hour after brushing.

Just control that urge to eat, do not eat anything however, a glass of warm nonfat milk will do. At first you'll find it difficult because your stomach has been used to getting filled at that hour after eight. Tell yourself that you had already taken your fill and the milk should be sufficient already. An application of this mind over matter thing. After a week of this, your stomach shall have adjusted to the new routine. You may reduce it now to half a glass of nonfat milk forever.
