A possible reason to not change your Avatar so often!!!

I have my notify on for new discussions from all my friends here at mylot. For those of you that I post regularly to, I look for you through the pages of friends by your Avatar, since I can't organize you in my own way here at mylot. How many of you change your Avatar regularly? Does anyone else look for friends by the Avatar? How do you find your friends to post to their discussions? Is there an easier way?

I haven't change my avatar image since I started because I look for friends by their avatar also and I know the I miss their posts because I didn't recognize them. I have always been bad at names but I do remember images. To bad I couldn't get an image of a name in my head. :) I use the Friend tab at the top of the page to look through my friends to see if they still look the same, just so I don't miss as many any more. I get a lot of email notifications for most, but some friends I don't have the notify turned on because they only have a few posts I like out of their many. I still go to them though through my friends list.

for my 6 months of being here in mylot. i changed my avatar 4 times already. the last was 3 or 4 days ago. i don't usually change my avatar because just like what you've mentioned, other members here look for avatars that are familiar to them. just like you, i am like that, too. i cannot remember usernames but i find it easy to remember familiar avatars. so, it's better not change avatars every now and then for further recognition.

You are telling a very valid point changing avtar very frequently is not at all a very good idea because it becomes your identity on the site and people start to look for the inmates instead off your name to quickly scan the discussions and so if you change them your friends will not quickly recognize you and they may not actually respond to your discussions. So I guess it is a better idea to get a good of car at the first goal and then keep it for a long time as it will only help you end the others also in recognizing you because frankly speaking in a page full of responses it is not of one to search for a particular name so familiar avtar can really serve the purpose

Yes I tend to look for my friends by their avitar. I get confused at first when they change them. I wish there was a way to organize our friends the way we want to . Maybe eventually we will be able to. Mylot makes changes all the time so we'll see.

Thank you for your response. Yes I'm hoping that they will come up with a way to allow us to organize our friends to our liking. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I always recognize people by their avatar, so I'm not too keen on changing mine that often in case someone wishes to recognize me by mine, lol! But I can't really leave a snowflake avatar up in the summertime - I could, but it would seem so out of season! I may try something wolf related, later on. But I would mostly rather stick to just one avatar. It seems easier.

You can keep the snowflake in the summertime, shywolf. It looks a bit like a doily. I don't think it is too wintery.

I recognise my friends by their pictures as well and if they change them it does confuse me a bit. I think you need to pick someting that stands out really well and then stick with it so peple will remember you.

I love my Avatar because It chose me! :) Somehow, the peaceful setting of the Sun after a great day's work, means celebration to me.. I hope you like it because it's become sort of a "trademark" for me! :)

I love your avatar too. It is beautiful and peaceful, much like the poster sized picture we have on our wall that we took on our honeymoon - a sunset at Prince Edward Island.

I will never change my avatar. Its my favorite picture of me and my dog that recently passed away. I really don't like it when people change theirs either. I look for certain ones in the general discussions that aren't my friends but people I know that have good discussions. With my friends, its not too bad because you can go to the discussions my friends started section and they will all me there. Sometimes I have to look close at their name because they have changed their avatar. But I don't mind as much because I know some people like to have a change every now and then. I pretty much know who changes avatars a lot and I expect it now.

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear about your beloved pet. I don't blame you for wanting to keep your avatar. I have gone to the discussions my friends started, but it seems like when I'm looking for a particular friend that started a new discussion I seem to go my friends list looking for them. I have had a few change avatars and so I end up having to look more closely at the names which are so small. Good luck to you here at mylot!

Yes, I too tend to look for my friends through their avatar. I considered changing mine but realized that it might confuse people or they wouldn't know who I was. Will they forget me that easily? LOL! I know people can get tired of their avatar, tired of seeing the same old picture, but it is how some people recognize each other. I cannot begin to remember a lot of the names that are on here... especially the long ones or ones that don't mean something. Like, I get "beaniefanatic13". It's a name that has some meaning. Mine is a combination of my names and country. But you can call me Pat. :)

Thank you Pat and you can call me beanie or Sandy.:) Some of the names are truly difficult for me to remember, others aren't so bad. But the avatars have been quickly memorized. Good luck to you here at mylot!

I also remember my friends for their avatar, it's serves as their faces on this online community. The only reason why I'll change my avatar is that when I have a new and better picture of me.

I tend to remember people by their avatars rather than there names. The exception would be if they have a name that is simple to remember. But if it's something that's not too memorable, pictures work much better for me. It's like how I remember faces more than names. I haven't yet changed my avatar mostly because I just haven't gotten around to it. However, you bring up a good point. It's more than just something cool to look at. It's a form of identification.

Hi. I too have turned this feature on for all my friends here. myLot should be doing something, to allow us to organize our friends in some way. Coming back to topic, me too try to find my friends through Avatar and if they change regularly, it becomes more difficult. I haven't changed my Avatar since I started myLot and doesn't have any plans too. The easiest way to know about our friends discussions and the responses to our discussions is in the inbox of our e-mail ID given to myLot. I always open my ID side by side and respond to my friends discussions from there only. Hope this would be of some help. Good Luck.

yes i recognize my friends by their avatars, sometimes I can't even remember their usernames as it's long and/or complicated, I look on my friends list and see new avatars sometimes and can't remember their usernames and won't remember if I had conversations with them before, with a friends list growing by the day it will become harder and harder and I must rely on the avatars to recognize my friends, I hope people here will not change their avatars unless they really need to and will take enough time to make sure that the new one is what they really want and they won't change it again any time soon.

Very well said. My friends list now is so long and some of them have just numbers or a series of numbers and letters and it's way to complicated to try and figure out. I do much prefer unique avatars. I have a few friends that have avatars that multiple on the sight use and it's a bit confusing sometimes, as I will see it thinking it's one of my friends only to read the discussion and decide I'm positive that isn't my friend, 9 out of 10 times I'm correct.

you are right beaniefanatic. when our friends often changing their avatar, it will make difficult us to recognize them coz we also imposible to record nick name, right? its easiest to remember picture than written for our brain. The only simple way to keep in touch with my friends when they post their discussion is to let notify of them in "on" mode.

I probably change my avatar more than anyone else on Mylot. I have a good selection of animated gifs that can easily be edited for avatar use, so I cannot resist the temptation to keep trying out a new one. It is impossible to say whether this has affected the responses that I receive because there is no standard to measure it by. I know that it makes no difference to me if my friends change their avatar, because I always look through the discussions my friends started section.

I find the Avatar an easy way to identify my friends and general users I have come across a few friends who have changed their avatar and I thought I was going crazy at first with a few till I realized... That's why I won't change mine....

Its just a waste of time. Neways u will not be paid for doing so!!! I prefer sticking to just one avatar. It makes me stay awae in everybody's mind with the help of my avatar. If i change my avatar more often, they will find it hard to find me out. Becoz its only the avatar which at first cathes the attention.

No I don't change my avatar that often...A way to get through to your friends is by opening their own page I guess...I reply to the discussions my friends post because I receive an email notification...sometimes I just pass them through and reply to all their discussions.

I normally do not change my avator often but the past few days i have changed it a few times and i never actually thought about this. I am with you though i also look for my friends discussions through their avators. Good point and i think i will only change mine once a month to keep it easier!!
