The long range spray is effective. It also helps to do it early in the morning or at night when it is cool outside and the wasp move slower. Be careful, I've been stung by a wasp and it hurts.

Are you looking to knock the nest down? If so, try a pressure washer or other high powered water stream. This way you can get further away. If you are looking to kill the wasps only, try one of the wasp and hornet killers in a bottle. Many of them will shoot up to 20 feet in the air allowing you room to keep away from these mean things. If that does not work let me know and I may have some other ideas.
