Do you always Leave Your Computer Switched On all day?

Is it best to leave your computer switched on all the time or should we switch them off? When I go online in the morning, I have mine on all day and only switch off at night. Do you do the same?

Hands up, I do have a bad habit of leaving it on 24/7 which is not good for the bills or the environment, but often I'm downloading stuff at night which is quicker. I should get into the habit of closing it down but because I'm nearly always on it, apart from a few hours when I'm at the gym, or go job hunting. It doesn't seem worth the while.

I alway's leave it on. Sometime's I have difficulties getting to sleep so I'll come on the computer. I don't like having to turn it on and off, whenever I use it.

Two of us in this house uses the computer. So it is on alot. If I happen to have a day here along, I do tend to leave it on unless I get satisfied with what needed done and is done. I can come and go so that even more gets done before sharing and I have to work again. If we are gone or all asleep, it is off.

Yes I do, my computer gets switched on when I get up and only turned off when I go to bed .. or if I am going out. I do switch off the monitor when i walk away from the computer though .. that saves a lot of power .. I was told once that it's better for the computer not to keep switching it on and off .. and I have even heard folks saying it should be left powered up but in 'hibernate' mode when you are not using it .. it's supposed to extend the life of the hard drive and the more delicate chips ..

I used to leave it on all day 7 days a week but enventually my hard disk gave way due continuous spinning, so now i only switch it on in the morn and shutdown before i go to bed. This way the life of my pc is extended.

If I go out or if I lie down in the afternoon I will switch it of as I do not want it on while I am not around. If I do have it on all Day I actually reboot it a few times a Day so it does not overheat and slow down on me.

You should always turn your computer off when it's not in use for long periods, i mean if you are at home and coming and going to it all day then it's ok but you should check the "power management" at control panel and set it to go on "stand by" or "hibernate" when not in use .. this way you save power and prolong the life of the computer parts.. But you can leave it on all day if you are downloading things, etc

I think it's probably better if you don't run it 24/7, but I frequently do. I don't think it will really hurt it. I usually have some downloads and stuff going at night, so I don't like to shut it off. If I know that I have no downloads or anything else going than I'll be sure to turn it off. If you're going to leave it on 24/7 a reboot every few days is recommended.

My computer is on all day and I go back and forth to it. At night I shut it off.
