How do you relieve stress and tension?

I tend to get pent up and then release pressure in unhealthy ways so what I was wanting to know is how other people eliminate the stress of ordinary everyday life. Do you punch walls, go to the gym, go running? Meditate, tai chi, feng shui something mystical and new age like that. Help me to relax.

I have a lot of ways in relieving stress and tension and this does really help me somehow in coping up with them. One is I can go window shopping at the mall, this helps me relax somehow because I get to see beautiful things for my eyes, then eat to a restaurant which can satisfy my food cravings, or I can just go to the spa and have a body massage or even a foot massage will do, this will totally ease out the tension in your body. At the end of the day, I feel light and relieved because I was able to treat myself. But if you're the type of person who does not love to go out that much, you can just lock yourself into a nice and quiet room and do some meditation, clear your thoughts and breath and exhale deeply.

My life is a quiet room. While my fiancee is gone all day to work there is no one here but me and the cat and the bird. The house is utterly quiet all day except for the tapping of the computer keys.

Fantasy does not help me to destress unless I am reading a fantasy novel.

When I can, I try and head to the gym. Working out is an excellent way to work out some frustration. Another thing I do, albeit a more unhealthier thing, is smoke. It helps to calm me down. I know it's not healthy, but it's just something I do occasionaly. Music is another thing that helps me deal with stress. Sitting down and relaxing while listening to the right music can definitely help. Find something that you find calming and listen to it. For me, it's classical stuff but for you it could be anything.

I do all of those things, and you are right they really do lower the burner on the stress, but then I go get back into my life and there the stress is right back again and right in my face.

I always find it difficult to sleep when I am stressed, although I know several people who are the exact opposite and whenever stressed they take to their beds. It seems as though they are sleeping through their lives and allowing fate to decide for them because nothing gets resolved while you are sleeping.

I usually play games online, or work on a puzzle on my table, or paint ceramics, or do crafts. Sometimes I sit down and watch a funny movie, soak in a warm bath, curl up and read a good book.. these things help me to unwind and relieve stress too..

These are great stress buster's, but if you have too much on your plate sometimes it is not possible to walk away and go watch people walk around.
