Why we feel no pain while cutting our nails and hairs?

The part of the nail and the hair that you cut are not alive; the hair follicles at the root of the hair and the nailbeds are the live parts that nourish the hair and nails. That's why if you pull a hair at the root or if a nail is torn off it hurts, because that is the area with the blood flow and nerve endings.
