Women's handbags

That's a purse for Americans :) This is a question for all you ladies out there. What do you carry around with you all the time in your handbag/purse? and why? being a man, I usually face the world with nothing more than a wallet, handkerchief and maybe some loose change in my pockets, but women can't seem to leave the house without a weighty bag containing who knows what???? So come on ladies, what's in YOUR bag? :)

This was a very good question, and you worded it very well too. This did not come off as a rant against ladies and their handbags, or shoulder bags as the case may be, rather an honest question from someone who thinks differently, from someone who wants to understand why we carry what we carry. At the present time I'm on vacation in Sedona Arizona, so I carry a smaller handbag. I can't leave things in the car, because I don't drive. For this reason I carry a larger handbag. One of my things is to spend the day reading at the cafe. My rather large bag (very unisex, a gentleman could also cary my bag to meetings and such) contains my wallet, magazines/books I want to read, my portable CD player, and extra batteries, along with my cellphone, digital camera, and room for chargers if necessary. In the wintertime I'll toss in a pair of gloves. Because of the size of this bag, I turned it into my carry-on for the airplane, when I came down here. I stuffed it with extra magazines etc. to read during a five hour flight. I didn't feel like unpacking all my "entertainment" when I arrived here, nor did I feel like trucking all over Sedona with my carry-on, so in my suitecase I packed a flat cloth bag for a few essentials. Travel Bag: -collapsable cane -wallet -digital camera -CD player -batteries -celphone When I am ready to go I will put everything from my little handbag back into my travel bag, and fold my handbag in my suitcase.

Thanks!!! I'm actually a very disorganized person. To me what I did with my handbag is just logical. LOL

I actually have two handbags. Actually I should rephrase that and say I have two handbags that I use regularly. I have a bit of a thing for handbags so actually own quite a few more in varing sizes, shapes and colours. I have a medium sized one for Monday to Friday, and a smaller one for the weekends. My Monday to Friday one seems to be a bottomless pit. Off the top of my head it carries my purse (I obviously need it for money, cards, work id, transport tickets etc in a day), sunglasses (I walk around outside squinting if there is sunglare or the sun is out so a day without them isn't much fun), reading glasses (the mighty headache that results in a day at the computer at work without them is absolutely no fun), my ipod (my 45odd minute train trip keeps me entertained), a little pocket sized sudoku book (again traintrip and also in my lunch break if I'm bored or feeling anti social), a little notebook (you never know when you might need to write something down), my mobile phone (in case of an emergeny of course), a few random pieces of paper that found there way in there at one stage or another for some reason, gum (just because), and lip gloss (the air conditioning at work is pretty horrid to my lips). In my weekend handbag I carry any gift vouchers I have at the time. You never know when you might be out and see something you want at a place that you have a gift voucher for. Then I just pull my mobile, purse and sunglasses out for the weekend. I once used the same bag for everything, but taking everything out of the week day bag for the weekend (I didn't see the need to carry around my ipod for example) got a bit insane. So this seems to work these days.

I must admit that I've often gone out to do something that needed my reading glasses, only to find that I'd forgotten them. Bad deal!Interested to see that you're into sudoko. My sister has recently got in to this and filled up her spare time quite well on our recent holiday to Egypt.

Okay, there's my wallet complete with pics of kids and grandkids, hairbrush, carmex, tinted lip gloss, eye glasses, sun glasses, pens and pencils, tic tac mints, small note pad (in case I need to write down someone's number or something important), purse sized kleenex, pill box with one day's worth of my medicine in case I forget to take it at home, keys, and handicapped parking permit (the kind that hangs from the mirror). My daughter (17), however, carries those things (of course, minus the handicapped permit and medicine), PLUS a bottle of her perfume, a full sized hair spray, a small makeup bag that is full of cosmetics such as blush, powder, base, coverup, eye shadow and two lipsticks, a small picture album with pictures in it, three packs of gum (different flavors of course) and her cell phone. Her purse is about the same size as mine, but weights about double what mine does! It's no wonder her back hurts so much, but I can't convince her to unload some of the things.

That's another thing of course. The damage that lugging a heavy bag about does to your back.

Oh to have a handbag I could call my own. : ) I didn't start carrying a handbag until I was married and had children. It contained gum, hairbrush, small toys, and whatever my children decided they no longer wanted to carry on their own or wear like ponytail holders, rings, earrings, shoes..just whatever. : ) My husband joined the bandwagon and got into the routine of saying "Honey, can you stick this in your purse," be it an ink pen, sales receipt, business card, his own wallet, the list goes on. Now that I am older my girls carry their own purse yet mine has become a safety blanket of sorts. : )It keeps me occupied while waiting in long lines, searching for items I haven't seen in years. The size and weight of mine makes for an excellent self-defense item. The items in it now, I do not know, however it is the first place I look when something is missing. : )

You may or may not know, but when British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher did down one of her political opponents, the press said that she'd "handbagged them" :) Rated + for this one :)

i carry around a bag because i like to be prepared before i go out. i mean, what if i want to buy something? or call someone? or what if my lips get chapped? what if i need paper for something? that's just how i think. girls are crazy like that. plus, it just makes you look cuter:)

Yep. But it does come in handy. I remember once I had cut myself and had nothing to put on the wound when along came a female friend who (needless to say) has some sticking plasters in her bag. She was a neurotic type and I would not have been surprised to have found an entire medical emergency kit in there :)But it was useful at the time.

Well, I started to carry handbag after I graduated from university. I usually carried my IC (Identity Card) and money inside my pocket, where I wore jeans most of the time. But now, as I wear skirts more often, and no pockets for me to put these stuffs. That's why I need to carry a handbag. I usually put my purse and handphone inside the handbag, and maybe a packet of tissue papers too, also the house keys. I don't like to carry handbag, coz I find it troublesome to carry anything. If I have a choice, I'll just pass my handphone and IC to my husband, and I just go out with him without needing to carry any stuffs.

Thanks for your comment. You seem to be out on your own in not liking to carry a bag!
