during my high school years when the internet didn't exist in our side of the world, we have penpals. we used to sign up in penpal society or organizations that ties people from around the globe. i used to have a penpals from Korea but we eventaully lost track. with our current situation, with the internet and all, do you still want to have a penpal? did you have a penpal before the internet existed? would you like to try now? were happy about it? what was yur experienced with penpals?

I used to have penpal who's from England, she's a filipina-brit and my father knew them because their work was based there in UK. She's the one who wrote first, and I was kinda shocked of her beauty then, I was still in high school that time and was kind of naughty also. But I do try to respond at her letters also, with a little bit of intimidation!;) But when my father came home, our communications stopped also. I guess we never were used to writing letters then, but I think it was also a good experience then!;)

Yeah! I already knew what it was all about, but I just played along. I never wanna disappoint him at that time, but I don't feel being in that situation. I want to know someone personally and not by writing letters..

When I was young I had 2-3 penpal. One was from France. After that I had one from Toronto who is the province next to mine and after that the daughter of my father cousin was my penpal for maybe 1-2 year. I think that with internet it,s easier to have a good long distance friendship because you can write to each other every day

i have always loved to have penpals all over the world and during my school years i had many penpals. one in argentina 2 in tajikistan but my longest and closest friendship was with my penpal in iraq. after the war there our correspondence stopped but last year i thought and tried to find the track of her again and sent her a letter on her same address, wishing it would reach her. AND fortunately it did!!!:D though we don't write letters now but i have got her email address and we corresponde through internet today. it's really great!!:) i lost track of all of my other penpals but still i fanticize of sending them a letter someday on there old address and see how it turns out to be.. other than her, there r some internet friends of mine who ask for postal address to corresponde as the idea is very romantic(LOL) so still in the age of email i have got a few penpals too:)it's so wonderful to wait someone's letter in the old fashion way;)

hey! you did a great job with your penpals. it's very rare that you have a long and lasting relationship with your penpals. me and my penpals had only a very short relationhip. i think it did not even reach a year. too bad. but i have to agree with you that it's really a wonderful feeling to receieve a mail in delivered in your mailbox by a mailman.

Letter writing was one of the most commonly done during my high school years too. And yes! I had also experienced that too. But that was just around the campus, among some schoolmates and some crushes and admirers as well. Well, i'm not quite sure if you take that as Penpal or just simply a letter writing. If what you meant here would be having a Penpal in a far away place, no, I haven't tried that yet. With the modern technologies we have right now, I don't think Penpal is still suitable. Well, yes! There are still people who are still communicating and not have seen each other yet, but it's no longer through the Penpal way. Mostly, it's through the internet already and even texting or SMS messaging. Hence, since I have not yet experienced that, I think I would not want to do it anymore because if I would still make Penpals, I would be among the list of the obsolete or old people who don't know how to use the internet. lol. PEacE! :)

hhahahah... but hey, receiving a letter is really nice. i appreciate it more that emails as i can see the person's penmanship and from that it could give me a hint about his/her personality.

i used to have penpals too, but you know the internet is the only way now... letters seem so difficult to do. I had a penpal from Holland once many years ago, and then she became my girlfriend! I visited her and she visiyted me... it was nice but then we had to go back to our own countries :(

Yes we used to do that. The school encouraged it for helping with our language learning and letter writing skills. I think it is such a shme that it is fading away. Emails are good and quick, but you still can't beat the feeling of getting a good old fashioned letter delivered through your letterbox.

yeah! i love receiving mails through the mailbox. i like to re-read them and keep the letters that i received. it's really a joy when you receive one now a days since there is the internet which is faster than snailmail.

I guess in this cyber-age, penpals have given way to ePals! Anyway, coming back to your original question, yes I still do have penapals and it is a lot of fun. Although finding penpals that'll write to you regularly tests your patience, but I believe that you have to have patience and the right person just comes your way. As a matter of fact I've got about 3 people whom I've met online and never in person but know them as well as anyone around me (or assume I do) With one of them I even make phone calls and that is a lot of fun too (but it eats into my pocket money... )

i had tons of penpals in one point of my life, when we first got the internet back when i was in high school. but then we stopped keeping in touch, maybe due to our busy lives and such. now i still keep in touch via email whenever i can, with a few friends that i know from the net when i was still studying.
