I have been asking for a long time for the school to test my kids for dslyexia. 2 of my kids are able to read but often read backwards. (ex. they will read the word on as no)My other son is unable to read period he is Autistic. My other son has Asbergers. My oldest has trouble with acedemics because of this problem. There father has dslyexia it seems to run in the family.

Keep on at the school and maybe go see your Dr too. Your kids have the right to have the school help however they needs them too. A lot of English school hve a special needs preson on the staff who can monitor the situation and request outside help. Talk to the teacher, head of infants/juniors, headmaster, make appointments if neccessary. You have got your hands full really. My oldest Bong (7) has Autism, ADHD and speach delay, school are now on about possible dyzsparxia so I sort of understand a bit how you feel. It just takes so long to get anything done. May I add you to mt friend list please?

well, since they do have other disorders the school should be well aware of the fact and testing might be a little tricky. but you should talk to your schools counsler and see what options they can give you. they should have information on where you can get your children tested. i was tested when i was younger and i had only a slight case that they said can go away with concentration and practice. but because your children have other learning problems, i'm not exactly sure, but a counsler should be able to point you in the right direction.

Do you know how you were able to get this testing. I s it a specialized testing rather than the normal that they put all the kids through? Is there a doctor that specializes in this? Let me know if you have any idea. And thank you for your response!

i was really young when i got it done. so i don't remember a lot. they also were trying to test me for ADD, which i didn't have. they would have someone come in and i'd go to another room and just do some worksheets and word problems, is was a woman, she was really kind to me from what i remember. i just did a series of problems she would ask me to read her small lines and stuff like that. for me, i only mixed up certian letter and numbers, which made math a little harder for me. i wouldn't reverse a lot, just 2 or 3 in a word. but thats all i really remember. i think i was in 2nd or 3rd grade when they tested me. i didn't get any special treatment in school after that, just some worksheets i needed to do at home. they said doing word finds will help my mind and eyes focus...i still have a hard time with them today.

Call the school board and find out what department handles this. When you call them, they will tell you what you need to do. Often there are special forms and hoops you need to jump through before getting specialized testing.
